PHOENIX - Police in Tempe have issued an Amber Alert for an 11-year-old girl who they think is being taken to Mexico by her 19-year-old boyfriend.


Valeria Cardenas was last seen about 6:50 a.m. today near the intersection of Baseline Road and Priest Drive in Tempe.

That's what gets me. Is the media reporting correctly or do parents actually allow an 11 year old girl to date a 19 year old?

Thats the first thing I thought as well.

However, the article doesn't say that the boyfriend is "parent approved".

The police may have gotten the term "boyfriend" from a friend or a peer who knows her.

OK..she sure doesn't look 11. Maybe he doesn't know she's 11? Maybe she told him she was 16 or so?? She looks way older than 11.
