This is a hard one for me to post. Being an adoptive parent and trudging through the dark alleys of behavior challenges for older adopted children, especially those adopted from institutions, is a very hot topic for me. This story is tragic and I am so hopeful that these girls are now is a safe place where they can receive proper treatment and care.

Often, couples start out with the best intentions and when confronted with the realities of children's needs, they become overwhelmed and resort to monstrous behavior. I have to wonder about their church. Could this be another family who subscribes to the Michael Pearl method of discipline?

Larimer County couple charged with abuse of adopted Russian daughters

"The adoptive parents of three sisters from Russia have been charged with child abuse in Larimer County in a disturbing case that extends as far back as five years.

Edelwina Leschinsky, 46, and Steven Leschinsky, 43, of Larimer County were arrested in March and have both been charged with one felony count of child abuse and four other related charges.

The arrest affidavit obtained by 9NEWS on Wednesday reveals disturbing details.

According to police statements, the Leschinskys adopted the biological sisters from Russia four to five years ago...."

and

"...In one instance, police say the parents made one girl run more than 45 miles in three days, all because she chewed her food too much.

Another common punishment, according to police, was "fisties," having to remain in a push-up position with their fists on the wood floor. One girl said she remained in that position for 40 minutes...."
Robert G. Marvin Sr.

Missing since September 4, 1984 from Moab, Grand County, Utah
Classification: Endangered Missing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vital Statistics
•Date Of Birth: April 18, 1929
•Age at Time of Disappearance: 55 years old
•Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'9"; 155 lbs.
•AKA: Bob

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Circumstances of Disappearance
Marvin was last seen at a gas station in Moab, Utah on September 4, 1984. He was a prominent Albuquerque geologist, employed by Santa Fe Mining, and traveled back and forth between Moab, UT and Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had left Albuquerque on August 31, to spend the weekend with his girlfriend in Moab. His girlfriend informed police that he left her home at 9.30, and that he intended to go to Telluride or Durango in Colorado to look for condominiums.

On September 6, Santa Fe Mining called Marvin's home looking for him, and his family, who had thought he was out of town for business, filed a missing persons report. Law enforcement officers in Utah, New Mexico and Colorado searched for Marvin.

His orange and white 1974 Volkswagen convertible was located at the Albuquerque, NM airport, a couple of weeks after. Marvin's tobacco pouch and other personal items were in the car. Traces of blood were found on the pouch, but not enough to determine if it was Marvin's blood.
Marvin did not withdraw any money from the bank before he vanished, and a paycheck went uncashed.
Foul play is suspected.

Marvin's wife, Lola Marvin was murdered in July 1979. She was found shot to death in her car, at the Albuquerque Airport. The homicide occurred when Robert Marvin was in Canada on company business.
** Please note that it's important, since we'll be reviewing a variety of information, that we don't turn this into a General Discussion thread, and cause more work for our mods. The goal is to look for new information, information that now has more meaning to us than it did earlier, and document it here, so let's stay focused!

If we want to discuss possible meanings of what we find, let's do it in one of the discussion threads, so we can stay focused on our fact finding mission here.

YBOR CITY, Fla. - Animal abuse took another ugly turn on Wednesday, but the result was a happy ending.
Authorities were contacted after a good Samaritan reported hearing a cat's cry on the waters of McKay Bay around 3 a.m., according to the Hillsborough County Animal Control.
The unidentified person retrieved the cat which was stuck inside a plastic airline-style pet carrier and set adrift on the water.
On the outside of the container the words "Kitty Penitentiary" were written by hand. The female cat underwent veterinarian care and was found to have a number of metallic pellets in her chest and stomach area as if she was shot with a small caliber weapon. She was listed in guarded condition.
Animal Services would like to speak to the person responsible for the animal abuse but are in need of the public's help to identify the person. Call them at 813-744-5660 or email them at info@hillsboroughcounty.org.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has stepped forward with a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. Tips may remain anonymous.
