It Can't Happen Here - 2nd Edition - Answers In The Sand

I would imagine Sanner was referring to when DR talked with Patty and told her someone might have put a body in his gravel pit. IMO, that was what set in motion the whole 2010 farm dig and not "some hunch" as media reported. So Sanner was basically saying if DR hadn't told patty that, they wouldn't have been there digging up his pit.

I agree with your conclusion. DR's statement regarding the gravel pit most likely is speculation on his part....but unfortunately had ramifications. "Loose lips sink ships" as the WW2 saying goes. While speculative on DR's part, it would be alarming to Patty Wetterling to hear such a thing. So my sense is that Sanner meant exactly what you stated: DR's statement created doubt + suspicion and thus LE had to follow that statement to its ultimate conclusion by digging up the pit.

Every time I read about the way LE manhandled DR'S elderly mother, ( allegedly ) I instantly fill with rage & disgust! I have nothing but love & admiration for the elderly❤ Always have Seems to me, Heinrich is still to this day, receiving more respect than DR & his family ever have.

She must have been close to 80. Does it seem possible that a person of that age would be treated that way especially with the status of the family in that area?

How many people of that age could take an attack which would not result in serious injury?

I've seen 100 year old ladies fall in the shower, break bones and cut their heads open only to be celebrating their 101st cake day and fully healed💪 It happens🙄

IDK any details regarding LE's manhandling of DR's elderly mother other than what's been reported here. If true, it is disconcerting. I do agree there is an imbalance between LE's treatment of DR and Heinrich. There's a huge gap between not only these individuals personally and professionally(I wouldn't put Heinrich in the professional category) but also between the 2 abduction theories: by vehicle or by foot. Each POI represents each theory respectively. Given the fact that Heinrich's foot + tire prints are in DR's driveway....why nothing regarding DR's footprints in the driveway?

Not meaning to belittle the comments regarding LE's treatment of the Rassier family but merely sticking to the thread topic of Answers in the Sand.....pursuing the footprints in the driveway a little further......if DR was the abductor....then why are Heinrich's footprints in the driveway? Let's for the sake of argument say they're not Heinrich's....then whose are they? DR's? I don't see how that's possible given the height difference between the 2 men. At least a 6"-7" height difference- it is doubtful they have the same shoe size. But again, for the sake of argument, let's say Heinrich just coincidentally happened to pull into DR's driveway(and just so happened to stop in the location of Jacob's last footprint), got out of the vehicle to relieve himself, got back into his vehicle, then drove thru the farmyard and exited the premises. Then later, Kevin drove through without stopping. So 2 vehicles innocently traversing the driveway. Kevin eventually came forward and his tracks were discounted. Heinrich of course did not come forward but his tracks were noted....and it appears at least temporarily....discarded. That leaves DR on foot(or did he drive a vehicle to the abduction site, make the abduction, and return to the farm? I think not). If indeed DR was the abductor then his footprints in a most probable shoe size much larger than Heinrich's would be all over the driveway near the intersection where the gravel meets the pavement.....as the boys stated: the abductor walked out of the darkness on the driveway so his prints would be there. Of course DR's footprints would be there too....naturally so...as he lived there. But would they coincide with Jacob's as he was led down the gravel driveway to the east? What are the chances that Heinrich's footprints would appear that night and at that time?

Usually a fall is a death sentence. My point is at that age, she would be injured. As we age, the body breaks down, Hard to imagine with a scenario like that that she would not require some medical intervention.

An excerpt from 'Answers In The Sand,' from the days before the assaults began...

On the night of August 30, 1986, Paynesville Police Department Officer Stephen Lehmkuhl was escorting the manager of the Paynesville off-sale liquor store to the First State Bank of Paynesville so the manager could make his nightly money deposit. Officer Lehmkuhl pulled his squad car up to the front of the bank at about 10:15 P.M., and as he got out of his car he heard tires squealing on a nearby street. He looked in the direction of the noise and noticed a maroon colored car heading north. The car ran a stop sign at the intersection of Augusta Avenue and James Street.

Officer Lehmkuhl returned to his squad car and pursued the maroon vehicle. The driver turned east on River Street and again squealed the car's tires before running another stop sign at the intersection of River and Washburne Avenue. At that point Officer Lehmkuhl turned on his police lights to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to stop. Instead, he turned south on Lake Street and veered into the parking lot at the back of the feed plant where he stopped the vehicle. The driver got out of his car and started to run as Officer Lehmkuhl approached his vehicle. Lehmkuhl chased after the man and was able to catch him about 150 feet away, where he subdued the man and advised him that he was being placed under arrest. The man resisted. Officer Lehmkuhl was able to get him under control momentarily and place an arm bar wristlock on him.

Lehmkuhl identified the man as Daniel Heinrich and noticed that his breath smelled of alcohol. Heinrich's speech was slurred and at times incoherent, and he continued to be "verbally abusive and combative" toward Officer Lehmkuhl. Heinrich spun away from Lehmkuhl's grip and struck the officer with his arm as he attempted to place handcuffs on him. Lehmkuhl called for backup assistance as Heinrich continued to swing and kick at the officer, damaging the squad car with an errant swing of his leg. Lehmkuhl was finally able to wrestle Heinrich to the ground and handcuff him as another officer arrived at the scene.

Heinrich was finally secured into the squad car. Officer Lehmkuhl proceeded to inspect Heinrich's vehicle, where he found a handheld, battery operated police scanner. The scanner was set to monitor transmissions of the Stearns County Sheriff's office. The scanner was confiscated and Heinrich was taken to the Paynesville Police Station where his breath was analyzed and registered at 0.17 %, over the legal limit for operation of a motor vehicle.

Heinrich was charged with a DWI and with fifth degree assault against a police officer and for having a scanner in his car. He pleaded guilty to the DWI and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced on February 2, 1987, to 90 days in jail and was required to attend weekly Alcohol Anonymous meet-ings. It's not known how long Heinrich was to continue the AA meetings.

There is no published information about where Heinrich attended meetings, but it is interesting to note that there was an AA meeting in downtown Cold Spring on January 13, 1989, just a couple blocks away and an hour and a half before the abduction and assault of a 12-year-old Cold Spring boy
.

Great research, Rob. Do you know what building the meeting was held in? FYI, I believe Jared was walking home from Side Cafe, which was also downtown Cold Spring. If Jared was walking on on the Left hand side of the road of Red River Avenue, it was easily possible that Heinrich was idling up N. 5th Ave with a clear and visible view of Jared. The Cold Spring Brewery was much smaller in size in 1989 but had enough lighting that you could watch someone walking a block away. The natural place to intersect Jared would have occurred (which it did) on 4th St, just a block from home for Jared. Also, at that point, one could easily point at the Kraemer house just down the road where 4th meets up with 9th. The sidewalk would have been on the north side of 4th.

According to the ad in the January 10th, 1989 Cold Spring Record, the meeting was at the Alano Building. There were also meetings there on Tuesday and Saturday that week.

That episode says ALOT about Heinrich......IMHO.

Then you don't dip away from that and put the focus on a man with no record and a professional career. The damage has already been done now. According to the CNN transcripts Sanner in 2004 basically cleared heinrichs tire evidence for good. He dismissed a vehicle, everyone is now looking at DR who was home alone. Heinrich is a POI now simply because investigators were trying to make those tires match for 14 years. Prepare for a final loop back to DR.

Good luck with that.

So puzzling that he appears to have been satisfied with images rather than actual contact.

They usually escalate, not deescalate. He is one to study

Success breeds escalation, and an unplanned ending to a fantasy can just as easily alter a serial offender's behavior. Escalation is a product of a pattern, but not necessarily infinite.

Do you have any studies on that as it is the opposite of info I have learned. For onstance, peepers used to be considered harmless, But it has been found they can escalate to not being satsfied with just peeping.

The BTK killer had long periods of time that he did not do anything except be a husband ,father, and pillar of the community, I don't know if anyone has studied him to see why or how he maintained his desires.

Well stated and I agree. A line drawn long ago was finally crossed and, the reality beyond that line, may have been and most likely was...... more than expected.

The evidence points to Heinrich.

But think of all kinds of issues. People say they will never drink again. They will be on a diet. What else? Even with life threatening things they start up again.

He liked to touch. Hard to see him controlling himself.

I wonder though--if Jacob's death was either just the abduction gone wrong or a kind of acting under extreme psychological pressure, crossing the line into killing might have changed things. interfered with the pleasures and satisfaction of abduction, which have to be different from those involved with grooming victims and having more long-termed predatory relationships (my vocabulary is failing me here, as "relationship" seems wholly inadequate to describe what goes on between a pedophile and a victim).

He was not a groomer, though. He went from pulling kids off of bikes to taking Jared. Escalation, Then he stops.

My point is that I really do not understand this at all, but people do stop life threatening things and thenthey startuoagain even though it may kill them

He may not have planned to kill Jacob. It may have started as another grab and assault, and something went wrong. It may have been enough to scare DH from doing it again. Maybe that is when his binder collection started.

I imagine that was true.

I am simply trying to figure this all out because it does not make sense in terms of what is known about predators. So maybe there will be new info because of his actions.

Anyway, I used to think of him as a scaredy cat, timid kind of guy. But the Kimball bombing and the dragging a horse behind a car changed my mind totally. He is cruel and vicious. Although the bombing was not hands on where he saw the results of his work. The horse was.

It does not fit in my mind that he liked the physical sensations of real boys , but he was able to control himself and make do with images. Hopefully, he will be added to the profiling of Quantico so there is more info on perverts.
