The case for murder

I think it is interesting to note how bossy AS becomes in that 911 call. He begins to tell the operator WHAT to do... "did you check the records"... just come down the boulevard across from the hotel... it's almost like he has been going over in his mind for quite some time how he will handle the 911 call.... since I don't expect he visits often ... he would not likely know the address... so he can't do that... but he certainly knows how he is going to get them close to the house... where the house is ... how they can look up records as they have already been there... he seems to be "thinking" very well and bossy for a guy in shock... he seeems to have an agenda... keep his distance... don't give out details.... and how am I going to direct 911 here....

Well that is a good point but we have not heard from JS or DS. As the parents of MS.... they would certainly have the strongest emotions. In fact the only thing we heard form JS was a speach to his shareholders... and it was in third person for the most part... and all business and I WILL be back in my office ASAP.

It is not unheard of for a spouse or boyfriend to kill his wife or girlfriend... they are always the first to be scrutinized.... and JS has a history of violence with women. He had the strongest emotional motive to kill RZ.

JS has a history of violence with women?

Could you please provide a link?

It's also extremely unusual for someone to tie a rope to the bed then through the room to the balcony and hang that way. Most people deciding to hang themselves look for something to hang themselves from (up at the ceiling).
There are many many unusual things about this supposed suicide. Reading police statement that they have no clue where she learned these knots suggests to me they didn't find anything in her background to explain it. While the knots might not be especially intricate I find it extremely unlikely someone is going to come up with them on their own without having knowledge of knots.

Dina and twin sister Nina both had boating and knot-tying experience. Their dad was in the navy. He also owned a moving company. Anchoring furniture with ropes, and moving heavy furniture was their specialty. The twins were very close to their dad and said to go boating with their dad frequently.

While I'd normally say that a woman couldn't pick another up easily and push her over a rail, RZ was so small and these women are of a size that it could happen. Especially if she was unconscious and not struggling.

However, I think Mrs. Holmes is right. Even though the scene is staged, someone with a Southwest account searched for staging, had the idea, and carried it through, allowing their anger to take this course. They demanded the dog be kenneled. Stripping someone and stuffing their t-shirt in their mouth strikes me as sexual, not just the rage of a woman who might hit someone or shoot someone.

Having recently spent a lot of time at a hospital with someone dying, there is nothing but time on your hands to think, and there was a lot of time here not only for people to work up a rage but to work up a plan.

Why didn’t we collect and process the panties in the trash?
...( P/P ---they probably belonge to a girl at a slumber party, b/c JS said so...and--) Fingerprints, DNA, and other items left behind in other areas of the mansion have limited value in proving or disproving a crime.

( serious "limited value"------if they are not even tested..)

Why didn’t we process the blood in the shower?

Since the master bedroom is in another part of the mansion, and there was no evidence at the scene of the event suggesting anyone else was bleeding other than Rebecca, this item was not tested.

( ummm---well maybe if you HAD tested the blood, it would have NOT belonged to rebecca------therefore, someone else at the scene.)

They didn't test the underwear in the room with the unmade bed? The other bedroom with a suitcase has a made bed (I'm assuming as they didn't mention it was unmade) so was adam sleeping? in the room with underwear, or did he get up early and make his bed? Or did he not sleep at all that night.:waitasec:

As in the case against OJ, history of domestic abuse is a huge predictor for who is likely suspect when a woman turns up dead.

It is interesting to me that with all the women JS must have encountered in his work on Capitol Hill, in major cities, through board meetings, etc., doctors, lawyers, he always chose to be in relationships with the women he did.

BBM.
I think he did not sleep at all that night! And he may not have been the only one in this cast of characters who didn't sleep that night. JMO.

And to think in the beginning I really thought RZ committed suicide. If anything "unusual" ever happens to me, I want all of the websleuth stars to dig for the truth for me. What a learning experience this has been.

Thank you all for your wonderful inquisitive minds.

Was searching for this reference. Someone had also said Dina and Jonah belonged to a Yacht club and Dina would know how to tie knots. Anyone?

Anyone who is a member of the CYC has a book listing all the current members, what type(s) of boat(s) they have, how long they have been members, etc.. This is where I saw it that Jonah and Dina are members. The boats are not docked at CYC, but next door at the Glorietta Bay Marina (which is a privately owned marina).

This case reminds me of the Jon Bennet Ramsey case..... alot of weird evidence... and IMO... all because someone is covering up the real crime..... it just messes up the crime scene... and confuses the heck out of LE.. who don't necessarily have the skills to see through all the "smoke screens" the person involved is using to hide the true crime...

Sadly.... if you kill someone... by accident.... or whatever... and then you just somewhat skilfully convolute the circimstances and mess with the scene of the crime... and you have half a brain... you will probably get away with it... because LE rarely has the money or time to sift through all the crap and get to the bottom of things.... they have to consider all that "extra" evidence.. and LE loses the thread of truth...

IMO Gore just shut it down as neat as possible to get out... because this was going to be far to difficult to ever prove... for regular LE. That is why specialists in the top of their game are able to see more clearly through the smoke screen.... it's what makes them experts....

Hope the CA AG has a few super sharp Detectives that can nail this case down....

I agree Mrs. Holmes. I don't think most police forces have the resources to spend or don't want to on some cases because they are a big hot mess. As a second factor in this case, the DA may not want to try and prosecute someone because of $$ they would spend on their defense and/or because they would need a lot more investigating to get someone convicted.

Having said all that, I believe it is often private attorneys and investigators who end up putting the necessary pieces together. If the attorneys in Rebecca's case can do that, which I think they can, I have high hopes someone(s) WILL be eventually convicted.

Also, sometimes someone eventually talks or comes forward. I have to wonder if someone were afraid they'd be thrown under the bus if that would happen here whether that is an LE investigator, a coroner or someone related to the perp(s) in some way.

We can be pretty sure there were things in the original LE files that we have never heard of too. It always boggles my mind when I hear about some of the things that were never made public in some criminal trials....

Thank you for that. I believe that is enough to think Dina could have had knowledge without even validating her childhood/family history.

Oh yeah thanks Time... MONEY.... big money.... convolute the facts and have big money....

but I agree.... "time will tell your secrets".... the truth has a way of finding the light....

According to Dr. Maurice Godwin:

'"...The investigative value that the shoe ridges and footprint evidence has in this case, is compelling. The findings indicate that Rebecca was not alone on the balcony the night she died."

"For example, no left footprints from Ms. Zahau were found on the balcony - not one.It is highly unlikely that Ms. Zahau maneuvered from the balcony door to the balcony railing on one foot. The absence of left footprints suggests that Ms. Zahau was likely lifted from behind and carried onto the balcony. This finding is supported by the partial unknown shoe ridges found on top and behind Rebecca's footprints..."

..."The likely sequence of events involved the perpetrator carrying Rebecca from inside the room to the balcony door. The perpetrator then needed to get a better grip on the victim so he/she placed her down allowing only the right foot to make contact with the dusty floor - just at the entrance."

"The perpetrator then lifted her up again and stepped forward towards the railing again setting the victim down for a second time allowing her right foot to make contact with the balcony floor. Rebecca was not alone that night on the balcony; the unidentified shoe ridge pattern is likely her killer's."'
