Whatever the search initially yielded may not have shown PC that he committed a crime. They might know she was in the house and car, but have to dig a little deeper for evidence of a crime.

It sounds like they had PC (eyewitness testimony or video, don't remember ) to obtain a search warrant for the car. The car turned up evidence that gave PC for a search warrant for the apartment. Hopefully, whatever they seized from the apartment will be enough to show PC for an arrest...

I thought as long as LE was inside the premises lawfully, (e.g. unrelated, valid warrant) any contraband within plain view is fair game. I could be totally wrong...I'm an attorney, but I practice in health law, so I might be misremembering some of the case law.

The only way I would recommend a client submit to a polygraph would be one that is done for the defense attorney (not through LE). If they fail it can be kept private, but if they pass you can tell everyone who would listen. JMO and I don't practice criminal law, as a disclaimer. :)
