I was asked to clarify one point that has been raised concerning Melton and WDB. In the newspaper photograph as well as in life, Melton was the large man and Blair was the small man. Positively identified by people that knew both.

The street was called Lewis Ave. now called Mountain View and yes the Pritz and Hughes were neighbors prior to the Pritz moving. This is right off of 8th street. The Blair's address on Texas street is about 8 blocks from Lewis Ave and is right off of 8th Street.

Back then there were about 5 or 6 potash mines in Eddy County that worked 24/7. The mines were from 18 miles to about 70 miles from Carlsbad and some had a bus service. Back in the 50's and 60's in a school classroom of 30 kids, 90% of the dads worked at the mines, and 5% of the moms worked out...
