Coronation of King Charles III - 6 May 2023

Interestingly, cancer can be found in the prostate that has metastasized from elsewhere, most commonly the bladder or possibly a melanoma. This is most likely to be discovered during the treatment King Charles had for an enlarged prostate. Here’s hoping this isn’t what’s going on.

More details:

Dr. Benjamin Bryer, a urologist at the University of California, San Francisco, noted that if a cancer is found incidentally in a man’s prostate and it turns out not to have originated there, that can be a dire situation.
“It is by definition a metastasis,” Dr. Bryer said. Cancers that can spread to the prostate include melanomas, he said. A type of bladder cancer known as a urothelial carcinoma could also show up in the prostate.
That sort of bladder cancer is the most likely non-prostate cancer to be found as part of treatment for an enlarged prostate, said Dr. Scott Eggener, a urological oncologist at the University of Chicago. The inner lining of the bladder has becomes cancerous and spreads through the urinary tube, he explained. The cancer can be found during the prostate treatment “when you scrape away the prostate from the inside.”

Seems as if it was caught early enough.

If this is the case (Rishi has also stated it was caught early) then the media need to back off now there’s no need for live news feeds to be discussing this constantly.

If the prognosis is good then I don’t think the royal family have helped themselves in two ways
1) why couldn’t the statement yesterday just say that the cancer was caught early and the prognosis is good - this would have minimised speculation.

2) why does Harry feel the need to fly back a few hours after the news broke - the royal family know speculation is going to be high and this will just add to the media frenzy.

If it’s been caught early then Charles is in a much luckier position than most of the population - he will start treatment straight away and have the best treatment possible - unlike most who get diagnosed who go on a pathway to treatment which can take 3 months+

I would be rather surprised if the Media were quiet.

This is the KING we are talking about.

I mean,
who is higher in hierarchy?

"Media frenzy" expression sounds condescending IMO.
Media are doing their job, after all ;)

Who would want gagged Media?

LONDON — King Charles III’s cancer was “caught early,” Britain's prime minister said Tuesday, a day after the revelation of the 75-year-old monarch’s diagnosis.

Rishi Sunak’s comments offered the British public new details about the condition, as Prince Harry headed home to see his father and Prince William, the heir to the throne, prepared to step up and take on some of the king's public duties.

Charles spent the night at home after beginning his treatment, which left the royal family facing a new health crisis just 18 months after he assumed the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II...

Harry arrives, Charles & Camilla leave to catch the chopper to Sandringham.

Brief indeed.

LONDON — Britain’s King George VI died 72 years ago Tuesday after cancer treatment so secret that it was hidden from the media, the public — and perhaps even the king himself.

On the eve of that anniversary, his grandson King Charles III broke with this tradition of royal mystery by announcing that he too has been diagnosed with cancer.

The king has been lauded for his openness, saying he chose to make the announcement “to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

This candor “shows us both that Charles wants to be more open but also how society has moved on,” NBC Royal Commentator Daisy McAndrew said, and that “sharing your cancer, sharing your own emotions and feelings about what you’re going through, can be very helpful, not just to yourself, but to everybody else.”...

Nearly an hour according to this article, so not so brief.

Time for a cuppa tea at least.

Its a long way to go for a cuppa but...Charles has been staying at Sandringham lately and I imagine had his returned booked before Harry even decided to fly over.

Prince Harry is making his way back to California after a transatlantic dash to see his father King Charles III in London following the monarch's shock cancer diagnosis.

The Duke of Sussex returned to Heathrow this afternoon, having been escorted to Clarence House in a police escort from the same airport yesterday.

Harry flew into London on a ten-hour flight from Los Angeles and arrived at the royal residence at 2.42pm yesterday before spending around 45 minutes with Charles.

They had a 'brief meeting' before the King and Camilla were driven to Buckingham Palace where a helicopter was waiting to take them back to Sandringham in Norfolk.

Not sure if Ok to post here or if there is a separate thread for royal family illness. I just had to post...Williams looks so distressed, my heart breaks for him. He's always been tendered hearted. His eyes are clearly very dark, never seen him look so worried. Moo

I suspect that this is a lot more serious than the Royal Family are letting on. I think they are holding back on the type of cancer because the prognosis for that type is very poor. We all remember being told the Queen was stable and chatting....then Huw Edwards got his black tie out. Charles has waited so long to become King it would be a shame if it ends so soon. I'm not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but cancer is an awful disease and I hope he can recover. All moo

To come think of it, the King did not look well during Coronation.
That was my impression when I watched the ceremony (just fragments) on this thread.
But then, I chided myself for being fanciful.

I wish him all the best and full recovery.

It is scary how many people fall victim to cancer.
Only yesterday I learnt my friend's Mum (70 year old) was diagnosed with ovarian cancer :(
I saw her a month ago and she looked great.
Now (with ascites), she is waiting either for chemo or surgery.
So sad :(

I also noticed - he seemed to have aged suddenly if you compare him to his father at the same age.
Cancer seems to be rampant. I can count more than 10 people I know currently who have cancer as well as others who have died from it recently. Very frightening...

When Charles and Camilla departed the hospital following the prostate procedure, both looked happy, waving to onlookers, and did not seem to be in distress or eager to depart. Charles looked well and energetic as he walked to the waiting car. I wonder if either of them knew about the cancer diagnosis on that day. Charles' hospital stay was brief, and maybe test results weren't available at the time of his discharge. Biopsies and other lab tests can take time and aren't necessarily resulted prior to a patient's discharge.

I doubt they would have had the results that quickly tbh. It did seem to me they got the results either at the weekend or on Monday.
