Trinity Poague, Reigning Miss Donalsonville (GA) Facing Murder Charges in the Death of a Young Child - 19 Jan 2024

The baby probably did cry when his dad left. What concerns me is most kids will stop crying once you are out of sight. The dad and TP has been together around a year, you would think the baby would at least be familiar with her.
Most do, but not always. Plus, he's not in his home environment. Probably no toys or anything to help him self-soothe.

It doesn't take much to distract and/or comfort, I worked in our Church nursery for a couple of years. If JD really did cry for over an hour, I'm thinking someone wasn't interested in paying attention to him, JMO.

But think of a college dorm room. No kids books, no soft toys, no shape sorters, no rocking chair, no anything, but cords, hard surfaces, sharp corners, electronics, etc. It's just a really inappropriate place for any small child to spend any length of time. And where on earth did baby daddy go to get the pizza, Mars? He was gone for well over an hour? What college campus doesn't have pizza nearby?

I agree, at that age there is a lot that can be done without toys.
A spoon and a bowl or pan to bang on, anything that can be stacked and knocked over, play a funny animal video or cartoon on your cell. It's not hard to get creative in a pinch. And that's if Dad didn't bring things to play with in his diaper bag.

I wish they would have asked for time from college student. He stopped and got drinks from one place and pizza at another. Definitely need more details. Definitely makes your wonder what set her off.

Yes! My kids rather play with stuff that isn't their toys.

Obviously someone killed the child. I'm just not sure all of the pieces to the puzzle are on the table yet.

Wouldn't it be easier and less painful to attend to and comfort the child than endure over an hour of crying? And if she had headphones on to endure the crying, why take them off and snap?

I really can't imagine listening to a child cry for over an hour and not try to do something to help. But if she did that and If she could endure over an hour, why snap then?

We had to mind our three month old baby nephew over a decade ago, for over an hour. We were nervous about the responsibility, but agreed to help our friend, his mother. We spent most of it taking pictures of him, then showing him himself on the screen. He was absolutely captivated by it.

These days, I'd probably load up ABCKids(Australia) and play episodes of Bluey back to back until the parents came back. Streaming makes taking care of my niece and nephews easy.

MOO

Something else that I don't understand

I just wonder if the crying was because he being abused.

Yes, I homeschool and I do that to occupy my 2 year old.

Oh, that turns my stomach thinking about it. I don't trust my dogs with anyone. I can't imagine trying to find a sitter for a child who I could remotely trust. This case is awful.
Yes it is! My 19 year old niece gets upset because we won't let her take our kids places. I will be the first to admit that I have trust issues when it comes to my kids. When you hear stories like this, you have to.

This case caught my eye, it had that element of the bizarre. I was surprised that babies were allowed in the dorm rooms. this didn't seem to be irregular or a matter of concern, is this usual? Is it just a regular thing to do? ..

Those charges she has got paint a dark and vicious picture... aggravated , cruelty to children, etc.. these are not your normal sudden quick smack on the backside, this is sustained and weaponised beating without ceasing. Tgere is an element of deliberation and determination inherent in the 'aggravated' depiction.

Something went very wrong, very quickly and stayed wrong for some time.

IME, no, a toddler in a dorm room is not regular, normal, or usual. MOO I'm surprised an RA or fellow student didn't knock on the door and check on the situation.
