Found Deceased TN - Riley Strain, 22, missing after leaving bar, Nashville, 8 March 2024 #3

Oh, what a sad day. As much as I'd hoped that Riley would be found, and knew if he was alive, he would have been found a lot earlier, it's still a sad day. And then to hear that Princess Kate had cancer, what a dreary day. RIP Riley. And I'm so so sorry for his loved ones. I hope they find some comfort in knowing how many were worried and hoping for better news.

We just never know what fate may have in store for us, unfortunately.

Does anyone have a link to the family's press conference that was scheduled for 5 pm ?

Edited to add -
Looks like the press conference by the family has been canceled, and that there will be a press conference by LE with invited members of the media and search volunteers.

I do hope money will be spent to make it more difficult for people to fall into this river from within the city.

I even think YourTempo needs to show up in Map Apps in a way that makes it clear it's not the Tempo by Hilton.

No more repeats of this tragedy.

It’s possible, but I would presume much of the wallet’s contents would be waterlogged after two weeks, although plastic like a driver’s license should be legible.

I hate saying it, but a body in the water for two weeks is typically unrecognizable. I would guess his unusual height was the most overt clue. The water wouldn’t change that, if he was in one piece (sorry to have to say this).

I said awhile ago that I also feel terrible for Officer Young. I really do. From the video there was absolutely nothing tangible to indicate that Riley was headed for trouble, but I imagine the officer will beat himself up with the “if only” thoughts.

In NYC, cops do not normally say “how ya doin’” when they pass by. They are too too busy, there are way too many people walking by, and it’s not Southern culture here, of course. I thought it was remarkable that the officer on the way to a car burglary even bothered to greet Riley in the first place.

Downtown Nashville police are pretty cool. They know everyone is there to party and not much else. We used to have Dancin' In The District. The District is what locals call Whisky Row/Honkytonk Highway. They'd block Broadway to traffic and we'd all pour into the street and dance the night away to great bands. The cops would boogie with us a little bit. In fairness to NYC, they stopped my son one night after he left a GWAR concert. They thought for sure he needed help and were very kind even after they discovered that it was fake blood my kid was covered in. Native Nashvillian.

Claims by friends that they were ohhh so desperate to accompany him, but were then stopped by bar employees with Gestapo attitudes and forced to settle their tabs in an excruciatingly slow process while their beloved fraternity brother slipped out of sight....

Should be taken very heavily salted.

Bar tabs are secured by credit cards in advance. People can leave at anytime. The card is then auto charged after a tip is added.

In the end, and seeking to stifle frustration, but it is frustrating seeing people want to assign blame to bar staff in this case....

Nice college boys can still make bad personal decisions regarding alcohol. Other nice college students can lie to put themselves in a better light. Bar employees try hard to find the mystical balance between safety and personal choices. They dont, however, have crystal balls.
Who said employees used Gestapo attitudes? Please tell us where that has been stated? Where did you find this quote? Luke's has been around for a while, and they don't exactly have a good reputation here in town. I'm in Nashville all the time. They will ask if you want to run a tab but they can't make you. Tips are only run if you forget your card and don't cash out, they will add it. Also, please be careful. Luke's and other bars in downtown like to double dip when you run a tab.

I think they're being sarcastic and agree with you!

Closer to home, we also spoke with Ludlow Police Chief Daniel Valadas, and he had the following message for college students and young adults both locally and beyond:

As a chief, as a police officer, but more importantly, as a father, that’s a nightmare. So, be careful who you’re with. Trust your friends, have people that can help you if you had a situation where you know you overdrink, you over-party, and you end up being in a situation where something could befall you, and have somebody that can help you.”

Western Mass News caught up with Springfield College students on Friday, and they told us that although this tragedy happened miles away, it still hits close to home.

And we’re told Springfield College also provides tools to educate students on staying safe when leaving campus, as student Nate Kelleher-Mochak explained, “In the summer, you have to fill out forms for alcohol, safety like drug safety, sexual awareness, safety, and stuff like that, they put you through classes in certain situations that might happen involving alcohol or stuff like that, and it gives a real opportunity for students to learn more about that.”

According to his friends or "friends" the bar employees knew that Riley had been kicked out and also knew that they were trying to accompany him.

Yet.... as the story was told, the employees forced all of them to close out their tabs first. That sounds pretty "Gestapo" like to me.

Anyways, the fraternity brothers apparently then lost track of Riley after finally breaking free from the psychotic bar employees. Video tapes must show them diligently searching for their "brother" immediately after closing out their tabs- right? Then again, maybe..... not.

My bet is that even nice college students lie on occasion. The bar employees are not the bad guys here.

Rather, they state that the college students were free to go at anytime- but chose not to. The one who went to the exit with him returned to the bar- not to the fictitious "tab out- then escort home" effort.
