This is weirdly quiet. Either law enforcement knows something we don't, or it's a product of the weekend news cycle. I think we'll have a better idea as to what's going on tomorrow.

Law enforcement authorities are investigating the suspicious disappearance of two women from Hugoton, Kansas.

I don't understand the silence, at all. The church associated with Jilian's facebook page is linked to hers, and they've had round the clock open praying for 24 hours or so, with no real mention of why. It could be mistaken for a typical Easter season vigil, if there weren't the vaguest of hints. So very strange.

Women in Jillian Kelley's position don't go missing in an unexplained way all that often, and the public would be very willing to help out if this were more public.

Prayers they're found safe, although it doesn't seem likely.

That would be news making (at least from the way I see libraries). For all we know, it could be anything. First glance, most likely to do with the custody of the children; second and third are tossups to me: something random (any similar cases in the area?) or something else in one of the women's lives; fourth or beyond would be something to do with the library. For me, that's difficult to envision as I don't think board member seats are highly coveted positions, and money and possessions are not usually associated with libraries (that I know about).
I'm thinking it's some sort of bitter custody battle.

Was this the 1st time Veronica was going to a supervised visit? How is the relationship with her ex and family? Why supervised visits? Is there a history of child abuse, mental illness, or violence on her end?
Did the ex and family know her location as she made her way to the children? Where is the ex husband? Could this be related to him?

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation on Sunday announced its involvement in the probe at the request of the Texas County Sheriff's Department, whose jurisdiction includes the isolated part of the Oklahoma panhandle where the women's car was discovered.

Their car was found abandoned along the side of the road near Oklahoma State Highway 95, which is just south of Elkhart, Kansas, right over the border with Oklahoma

Who has custody of the children Veronica is going to visit? Worried that the pastors wife may have inadvertently placed herself in danger.
Perhaps the Pastor’s wife was going with v for support, or because court ruled supervised visit. Then possibly intercepted by angry ex. In those situations, would possibly be better tho be escorted by another male. Those situations seem to trigger lots of homicides and the poor kiddos always other victims too. Jmo.

Surely police have investigated the site where the car was found, tire tracks, footprints, signs of struggle, anything dropped etc. If these women were abducted, I'd think this was planned....likely no fingerprints on the car if whoever wore gloves. Is the "side of the road" gravel, dirt....or asphalt?
This is alarming.
I think this is connected to a custody issue too.

I think the car was likely dumped there. The most important thing I think, is finding the location where the meetup was supposed to take place. That’s going to be where the evidence is.

That car will obviously be very valuable too, especially if it was dumped.

Ugh, everything about this screams 'run off the road by another vehicle and abducted' to me. It would have had to have been well-planned and organized to get both women out of the vehicle without leaving any obvious clues behind.

I wonder if Veronica was apprehensive about something happening to her on this visit and that's why she asked someone to come along with her for safety or support. If so, her instincts were certainly correct.

I hope they're found quickly, before it's too late, but I don't like the way this one feels at all.

Wasn't the meet up supposed to be at a "rural home" as per the poster? If so how far is this rural home from where the car was found? Is it possible they did arrive at the home and something happened there and the car was dumped afterwards?
Was the driver's seat position changed?

Those are my questions as well. <modsnip: sleuthing family>

You'd be surprised.
At any given time there are restraining orders behind the scenes at libraries.
Currently I am dealing with a stalker of a coworker that has been in prison and has returned to town looking for her. Two Saturdays in a row he has shown up.
ETA: If this weren't a custody case already, the library connection would not be so lightly dismissed.

Those cell phone records are going to tell one hell of a story. If they made it to their destination and the car was dumped, they’ll confirm it. If the car was found at the original location of an attack, they’ll show that too.

Fortunately this is being called suspicious, so it’ll make obtaining subpoenas easier.

Right.
"Suspicious" is an understatement. Given the custody battle, and this attack, there's plenty of bad blood between parties, and motive here.
It also appears pretty sloppy on the part of the perps.
I think this will be solved sooner than later.
