NC NC - Blake Deven & London Deven, missing dates and ages are uncertain, FBI involved, Fayetteville

I think there is some resemblance between London and Blake, but there is a decent age gap there. Could they be half siblings? Cousins? Half sibling sounds more likely.

Resemblance is mostly in eyes and nose. <modsnip>

Just thinking...

Just because their "last seen" dates don't match, doesn't necessarily exclude the possibility that they went missing at the same time, meaning there was only one incident and not two separate incidents. If LE can't confirm sightings past 2019, that doesn't necessarily mean that particular child had actually gone missing then, rather than, say, kept locked up like we have seen in various other cases here, where neighbors had no idea there were even any kids in that house until the kids were discovered and rescued.

There are so many possibilities in this confusing case. But it is probably going to turn out to be a straightforward case of evil people getting away with horrendous things because these poor kids fell through the giant cracks in the foster care system.

All MOO.

Police say while conducting interviews in a separate investigation, several members of Blake's family reported that they had not seen him in several years. It's not clear how long it's been since he was last seen.

"Due to the unusual circumstances of his reported disappearance, the Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit, which also investigates missing and endangered persons, is leading the investigation," police said.
Fayetteville Police identify missing relative of Blake Deven

Fayetteville police did not say how long Blake Deven has been missing. The Missing Children Database states Blake Deven has been missing since 2022.

Police did not say how Blake Deven and London Deven are related.

Anyone with information to locate Blake Deven or London Deven should contact the FBI at 1-800-225-5324 or the Fayetteville Police Department tipline at 910-578-2697.
Fayetteville police add missing relative to search for missing teenage boy

“I thought somebody had been killed,” he said. “They had forensic trucks.”
Neighbors concerned about Fayetteville teen who vanished; left with questions after nearby police search

a separate investigation, a forensic crime scene van, a recently discovered but possibly long missing child and now a relative with a shared last name is also possibly missing for years. What on earth is up with this case?

What did LE find on Wednesday near Berriedale Drive?

I live in NC, and had to go searching for this. I hope in the coming days it gains attention and answers are found.

Curious to know what the other investigation is that started all of this, an investigation into *something dealing with the foster family or bio family.*

Edited wording

This case is so bizarre & vague.

Police investigating something else initially and discover the boy is missing. Then, while investigating that, discover that another female relative is also missing but no details being released not even how the two missing people are related to one another?!

Felicia Chandler, Blake's biological mother, said it was painful enough to put her son into foster care. Chandler said Blake was placed into foster care because of abuse allegations, which she denies.
Chandler said she only discovered her son was missing in February, when the Fayetteville Police Department notified her.
….
The Madison County Department of Social Services released a statement:
"The Madison County Department of Social Services had placed in its custody in February 2011, a child, Blake Julian Trenton Deven, who is subject of an investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department. In May 2011, Blake Deven was placed in a foster home located in Buncombe County through a licensed private child placing agency. He remained in the foster home and was adopted in July 2013. It is my understanding that the family moved to Cumberland County in 2015."
The Cumberland County Department of Social Services also sent a statement to WRAL News:
"Cumberland County had no history or involvement with these children or family prior to the current report. We are working in conjunction with law enforcement as it relates to this matter. We are equally concerned about the safety and well-being of these children and will continue to aid law enforcement in their efforts."

um, parental rights are not typically severed and a child adopted out over unfounded abuse allegations so I will keep my opinions to myself on that one.

Blake's bio mother makes zero reference to London nor does aunt Miranda. So is Deven the adopted surname? So London may be a non biological relative, perhaps another child adopted by same family or their bio child. JMO

uggh. Where did the adoptive family go? Surely in this day and age of digital footprints LE can located an entire family?

The family moved to Cumberland County in 2015. CPS in Cumberland says they've never had any dealings with said family. Where did they go after that? Glad the FBI is involved. If any agency can track the family that adopted Blake my bet is on that one.

These statements confuse me as to why there has been such alarm raised re: missing children, because what both social service agencies describe in their statements appear to be fairly normal processes as foster care and adoption from foster care go.
The bio family may feel slighted by what initially occurred, and obviously as we all know, social services has less than stellar record for always being on top of childrens’ safety, but there must be some other reason (aside from the bio family losing track after adoption) for the significant involvement and concern raised by law enforcement now.

speculation/theory.

What if LE was initially investigating something pertaining to the disappearance of London. That investigation leads to Blake's family being questioned (maybe because he would also have been in the adoptive home with her.) That is when LE discover nobody has seen Blake either. So they begin looking for Blake, while keeping the investigation about whatever caused them to be investigating London (who would be an adult by now if still living) close to the vest.

Then, with no further leads forthcoming, they throw us a couple of breadcrumbs by providing info about London being a relation of some sort to Blake to see if that spurs additional leads about the family in general?

I am not saying this is what happened here but what if these children were rambunctious/hard to handle kids and the adoptive parents had an "adoption disruption."

<modsnip: discussing FB comments> Is the older missing woman an unrelated foster sister? Last name changes after adoption hence same last names but no blood relation perhaps??

|Missing and Endangered Person|

The Fayetteville Police Department is requesting the public's assistance to locate 17-year-old Blake Deven.

While conducting interviews in a separate police investigation, several members of Blake's family reported they have not seen him in several years.

Due to the unusual circumstances of his reported disappearance, the Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit, which also investigates missing and endangered persons, is leading the investigation. On March 27, 2024, the Fayetteville Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation searched three locations in Fayetteville as part of the expanding investigation to find Blake.

Fayetteville Police Department requested the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children create an age progressed photo to better depict what Blake may look like today at age 17.

If anyone has information concerning the whereabouts of Blake Deven, they are asked to contact Fayetteville Police Department tipline at (910) 578-2697.

NCMEC has 8/1/2022 as missing date and this photo

ABC11 asked FPD when Blake was reported missing, but the department was unable to share any further information.

The last known photo of Blake was in about 2012, which is when he was in elementary school.

Wow, this is very confusing! Was Blake never reported missing? Who did he live with? Did he stop attending school?

Did Blake by chance have two other brothers who were placed with the same foster/adoptive family? Is the older missing woman an unrelated foster sister? Last name changes after adoption hence same last names but no blood relation perhaps??
Yes, Bio-mom is on the FB post making comments. What an unusual case, but it sounds like he'd been adopted out, name changed, and she was hoping to eventually hear from him once he came of age (18) in May

CBS 17 learned of a large search on Wednesday near Berriedale Drive.

Neighbors said they saw a large police presence outside their homes as officers searched.

Other neighbors like John Whitaker question if they’ve seen Deven before.

“I thought somebody had been killed,” he said. “They had forensic trucks.”

This is what I'm thinking too...or worse another issue with another child in the home came about-prompting the initial investigation which led them to question bio family.

Confusing case.
