Nobody's losing their license over any Adelson. They haven't paid THAT MUCH money. Wendi though. She may ultimately lose her license.

There is a Circle K a bit south of the ABC which typically has gas at one of the cheapest prices in town. If she needed gas, she may have been headed there as well. Again, not trying to defend her, but her shopping habits just aren't that weird.

I'm fairly sure it would not apply to ex-spouses. But, I also believe the exclusion would be applied to the A's relationships to each other, not to Markel. And, someone coached D on how to talk to the judge. Much different approach today.

I'm not a criminal lawyer, but it looks like the exception wouldn't apply to a murder. It looks like (a) creates the exception for 3d degree felonies. Then, (b) excepts child abuse from the exception. And, (c) essentially says there are no exceptions for 2d or 1st degree felonies or capital or...

This is ridiculous. Both the Adelsons and the case followers think Tallahassee is some sort of 19th century country town. With the universities and government, we have a very educated population and one that continues to vote Democrat while the rest of the panhandle regresses to Antebellum...

I always avoid Thomasville around the I-10 interchange, Timberlane, Maclay, etc. It's always a pain in the *advertiser censored*. Lunchtime can be busy in those areas. For instance, Wendi and her friends planned lunch around there. But my primary point there was to say that FSU's schedule does not impact traffic...

    1. This is true. I mentioned it in a later post. 2. This patently untrue. There is no FSU/FAMU/TCC-related traffic on Thomasville, ever. It only starts at Monroe, miles from FSU's campus. Students weren't eating at Mozaik (in fact the owners operated places closer to campus). 3. I regularly go...

Mozaik was on the other side of Timberlane. She could have walked it. I've gotten my car washed next to where Mozaik was and walked to Market Square to look around.

The alternate liquor store that would have been an obvious alternative for her would be the Market Square Liquors at 1415 Timberlane. It's locally owned, active in the community, and is staffed by experts. The nicest seafood market in town is next door, it's a 50ish year old shopping center and...

I swear I'm not trying to defend her, but that store was fairly new in 2014 and is on the north side of town, the opposite direction of her old house, FSU, etc. And that area developed so quickly, it was/is hard to keep track of what has opened and closed up there.

The Publix liquors near Mozaik is a small, narrow store front staffed by part time employees. The ABC on Thomasville is a huge, bright store staffed with people knowledgeable about liquor/wine. It has a much broader range of products. It's completely reasonable for a non-drinker to not be...

There is no need that they be harsh. The US incarceration system has established harsh conditions as the norm. I ABSOLUTELY DON'T believe DA should get different treatment. But there is no reason her and similarly situated inmates can't be monitored and protected in a more humane manner.

My thought there is that he would not be in favor of any type of punitive treatment before a conviction. But I do think this is a much larger debate about prison/jail conditions.

My ex-wife was a public defender. She and I talked about whether victims' views should matter. I was surprised to learn through this case that there was scholarship behind that concept. I didn't do much research after that.

In no way do I wish to diminish the Markel's loss. I just find it somewhere between interesting and odd that they are participating in part of the process that Prof. Markel spent his professional career arguing against. He was adamant that criminal punishment was the prerogative of the state/the...

From what I've read of Dan Markel's jurisprudence, it seems like he would be: 1. In favor of better treatment of defendants being held pre-tiral. 2. Against victim impact statements. If there are any of his professional colleagues or other crim-law experts here, please correct me if I've drawn...

Owning individual properties in separate LLCs is extremely common. It helps isolate liability, allows for the sale of the entity instead of the property, and can facilitate financing options.

I'm not trying to defend the judge, who seems to have the reputation of being a wannabe internet personality. Rather just making a suggestion as to why she may have been so flippant in this specific instance.

If you discount the possibility/probability that the judge generally mugs for the camera/internet, it seemed like she may have believed the whole thing is a mistake and that the woman who looks like she could be the judge's mother couldn't possibly be wanted for murder/conspiracy.
