Greta's interview w/Special Agent Kolko - 01/17/08

"KOLKO: Well, a couple things happened. As soon as we thought he was gone, the FBI got the warrant. And what we do is we notify as many of the police as we can through our notification systems. And at the same time, we start notifying the public, OK, via the posters, some press releases, 1-800-CALL-FBI line, and then we started to get some tips, which helped us track him.

Some information, intelligence, led us to believe that he may have worked his way to Texas and possibly gone into Mexico. But one of the issues there is he's already proven to us that he wants to be a fugitive. So even though we think he might have gone into Mexico, that doesn't he's staying there. So it's still critical that people in the States are on the lookout for him."

Washington, D.C. – In a letter today to Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Third District Representative Walter B. Jones (R-NC) urged him to use all means necessary to assist U.S. authorities in bringing Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean into custody and to justice.

"Dear President Felipe Calderon:

I am writing regarding the search for Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, the suspected murderer of U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach and her unborn son. . . ."

The surveillance video from December 16 shows Cpl. Laurean shopping at a Lowe's home improvement store two days after Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is believed to have been killed, said Onslow County Sheriff's spokesman Rick Sutherland.

CNN obtained the video from the television program "America's Most Wanted" and broadcast it during Friday night's "Anderson Cooper 360."

In the video, Laurean is seen with another person described by "America's Most Wanted" as "a friend." Sutherland said that investigators believe Laurean was with someone at the store, but had no other comment.

The video shows Laurean purchasing supplies, paint, concrete blocks and a wheelbarrow.

Great article full of details about neighbors:

On Christmas Eve, the Laureans lit a bonfire in their backyard. The next day, the cars lined up on the street as they entertained friends and fellow Marines. They welcomed friends to their home again on New Year's Day.
Life on Meadow Trail continued to appear normal right up until the morning of Jan. 11, when police crews descended on the house just before the world learned that a pregnant Maria Lauterbach was killed and buried in Laurean's backyard fire pit, and that he was gone.
The night before, the Alanders saw their next-door neighbors sitting on their front porch. She didn't think much of it at the time, but Wanda said she noticed Cesar kept walking into the backyard.

Mother says slain lance corporal wanted to be sent to Iraq rather than be around alleged attacker

Mary Lauterbach was strolling out of Wal-Mart on May 10 when her cell phone rang. Maria again. Her oldest daughter, "strong as a bobcat," had seemed lonely and vulnerable since being stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. It was, after all, the first time away from home for the 20-year-old Marine lance corporal from Vandalia. She called three or four times a day — so often that Mary found herself guiltily screening her calls.
Maria gasped out the words between sobs: "Mom, I was attacked."

(CNN) -- Suspected killer Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean is most likely in Mexico, authorities said, and the prosecutor said he has agreed not to seek the death penalty if Laurean is arrested in that country.

Onslow County, North Carolina, District Attorney Dewey Hudson told CNN that he was shown "strongly compelling evidence" compiled by federal authorities that shows Laurean is in Mexico.
