Well, after reading the past few pages... Y'all have me seriously wondering about the sister.

I see a Lifetime movie in our future.

Meant to ask my sources in Goldsboro today, forgot.

I hope the RPD stays safe this evening. Sure they'll rack up quite a few DWIs.

Not a split level, upstairs is just significantly smaller than the main floor.

Here is an e-mail passage from a close friend on this .....

"Dina supposedly heard something during the night and came downstairs. Kathy was sleeping downstairs. She didn't see anything and listened in on Kathy and heard snoring. Now they are wondering if it was moaning. The next day Dina assumed she was sleeping late, due to the surgery and the fact that she was medicated for pain. Didn't get concerned until later that morning, when she went in and found Kathy unconscious and in a pool of blood."

The killer must have been gone by then or why leave a possible witness?

Again, it is possible that Dina had more of a connection to the murder, and her saying she heard something does not mean she is innocent. I guess that was probably before 3 a.m. since LE is trying to catch up with anyone who'd have been around at that time, and the cutoff time is 3 a.m?

I was thinking about the 911 call, and remembered something I'd seen on a crime show in which the person calling 911 said that he heard a gunshot come from his dad's bedroom, but the door was locked and he could not get in. Later in the call he makes a comment about his dad's condition, and the 911 operator asks him how he knows that if he is locked out of the room.

Dina resides in tiny Oriental NC with her husband.

875 people, 440 households residing in the town

Median income for a household in the town was $37,794

The per capita income for the town was $25,949.

I'm not sure what you're implying -- is this motive to kill?

So, she hears a "noise" and decides to go down and investigate.
Apparently seeing nothing amiss in the main room, she puts her ear to the closed door and hears "snoring".........come on. That account is LAME.

Mark my words, IMO, the sister bludgeoned Kathy to death with a single, vicious blow to the head.

Not implying anything Noway.
Just pointing out this entire town is the size of a large neighborhood.
The demographic info was just to show contrast with Kathy Taft's affluent status.

Beauty, popularity, social & economic status = jealousy...motive for murder ?

I guess Kathy did let some friends know she was having surgery. I guess she wasn't as hush-hush as some.

Raleigh police have released few details about the attack and investigation. It initially was reported that Taft was discovered by her sister when she didn’t show up for breakfast. Family friends reported Taft had undergone surgery and spent Friday night at the house with her sister.

I was just trying to figure out how many people even knew she was at the house on Cartier.

Possibly. Yes. But it is possible that lifestyle did not appeal to Dina at all. (I know it does not appeal to me, but then I too live in a town the size of a large neighborhood.)

If Dina killed her in some kind of jealous rage, wouldn't there be more than one blow? Maybe?

Well, that small detail would travel quickly after she arrived at the hospital....doncha think?

LMAO. I don't know. From what's been said, admitting to plastic surgery was not her style.

But maybe some of those friends reveled in "having" to release that information?

Just a theory, considering sibling rivalry.

The single blow? What random killer bludgeons a woman in her bed w/o a sexual assault? Yea, I know. Ted Bundy would have done such a thing.

I have had cosmetic surgery before and remember how I relied on another to be with me constantly that first night. They were constantly arranging my pillows to keep my head elevated, rotating my frozen peas in the freezer, reminding me of my meds, fixing my ginger ale and ice, etc. .

I hadn't thought about this, but I have had outpatient surgery before and came out of it extremely irritable for a while. I can imagine how painful it must be to have had some more extensive procedure done....you would want to have a very patient person with you.

Would the EMTs have examined her in any way -- removed the bandages to find the source of the bleeding and stop it?

If so, would they not have noticed that a crushed skull was not a complication of a neck lift?

Would they just transport her as she was?

For me, the more information, the better. I love knowing as much as possible about all the details. I did not take this information as inferring anything, I just took it as good reporting.

it is very doubtful that EMT's would have removed her bandages, it probably was a kind of ace wrap type that left the face open, the top of the head and neck are wrapped.....envision some of the winter ski hats that folks wear, that leave the face exposed, and you have the idea. The skull may have had a terrible injury, but it may have been only as big in diameter as the object used to cause the blow....sometimes injuries are not discovered right away, until an autopsy is done, because scalp and hair and skin cover the area of the injury. the EMT's main interest was probably to transport her to the hospital safely, protecting her airway by intubation, starting an IV to administer fluids, and monitoring vital signs en route. If her heart had stopped they would have been able to perform CPR and defibrillate if needed. They also can administer drugs if needed, and are in contact with the Emergency Room Physician and staff while transporting the patient.

In thinking about this case i wonder if we hinder the investigation in any way by putting forth our theories and turning around all the information for each other to comment on. I don't know. I suppose it doesn't matter much. The story about sister locking her keys in the car at the shopping center, so that she had to walk home......it's a good reason for her to be out in the dark, in case she was spotted by someone. But it may be nothing. I think it would be pretty easy to dump a weapon into a paper bag and pretend it was trash out at that shopping center, or in the dumpsters...and then continue on my way home. But personally, if i had a weapon to get rid of, i think i would just pack it in my suitcase and take it back to my little seaside town with me, where i could throw it into the ocean.
I doubt this crime was planned. Spur of the moment, grab something closeby... easy to handle. what would be close to the place Kathy was sleeping? Maybe some decorative item....I'm just guessing...like everyone else. We will see.

Locking the keys in the car and having to go back for the car would be a good opportunity to dispose of a murder weapon.

If she did go back for the car.

I suppose John would be asked if anything was missing. Statue, candlestick, lead pipe...

Little doubt Dina committed the crime. Relationship between the two was a bit strained.
