2010.04.17 Shoemaker says Ron and families told to prepare for funeral

I don't think they will let RC out for a funeral. He has stated many times that he will kill whoever was responsible no matter what the consequences to himself. That makes him a danger to society. Can you imagine what might happen with a guy who has sworn revenge, at a funeral and all worked up emotionally, probably his last taste of freedom for 25+ years anyway & then he sees someone he thinks has some involvement? He's a walking time bomb.

Ron isn't going to kill anybody because if we believe him, the person he suspected was within his circle, therefore he had the means to "take out the trash" long ago. And he did nothing...IMO, Ron is a danger to himself. And if that blows up...well let's just say-we'll here about a funeral for Ron.

I find it curious that the family was told to prepare for a funeral vs. a memorial service...

I was thinking the same thing PomMom. A memorial is without remains right? But a funeral would indicate they have some kind of remains.

Chloe will never get to meet her big sister. I'm sorry but I don't care if Ron can attend the funeral or not.

Does anyone think that maybe Crystal will have a private service with just family/friends?
If LE is keeping her updated on whats going on maybe she doesn't want the media there or have anything to do with the Cummings side.

I see no reason he can't go unless he is a suspect. If allowed, he attends the funeral with police escort and in cuffs. In listening to Shoemaker, none of us should worry about rc at all. According to his attorney, rc does not have any anger, just a little disappointed though. :waitasec:

I just read that link I am now more confused then I have been through out this whole case

Months ago, Cummings' mother said he may have done those crimes to get close to Misty after the divorce, in order to learn what happened to Haleigh.

Now I need a drink!!!!!!!

I think that is a real possibility. She probably feels a lot of support for Ron getting custody of the kids came from TN and GMS.

I think having two funerals for Haleigh for both sides of the family would not be right. They need to come together on this, well TN and GGMS can attend but the arrangments should be made by Crystal if she feels up to it. I hope lots of purple... I'm going to stop now... not ready to think on that yet.

I don't know if it will be like Caylee's and Sandra's... I want to be able to be there for Haleigh but I can see the family having a private service also. Maybe both?

If LE said to prepare for a funeral, they must have found remains. I can't think of another reason to make a statement like that. And for what it's worth, I don't think there would be a public statement about LE telling RC to prepare for a funeral if he was now at the top of the suspect list. They would be using that information in interrogation and we wouldn't hear a peep about it--just as we have almost no idea what is being said to Misty, Tommy or Joe. We just saw Misty standing on the dock and heard about Tommy taking LE to the river.

I get your point, however, if Ron was handcuffed, in shackles, and someother sort of restraint (and perhaps a tranquilizer or two), do you think he could attend then?

He is not my favorite person by a long shot, and I do think he had some knowledge and/or involvement in Haleigh's demise. But what if, (I'm playing devil's advocate here), what if he is innocent. How would everyone feel that he couldn't attend little Haleigh's funeral if that were true?

What they may have said is begin to make funeral plans. Or if this is goes the way we feel it is going, you should prepare by choosing a funeral home.

When a decedent goes to the coroner one of the things they ask the family to do is choose a funeral home. The reason is, when ME testing is complete, the coroner knows who to call for purposes of taking the body into their care. The funeral home chosen by the family would transport the decedent into the care of their facility. The family then would meet with a Director to make arrangements.

If it turns out that RC is involved, then he doesn't go. The person or persons who killed Haleigh will not be there. If it turns out to involve Misty and/or Tommy, which all indications point to, then they won't be there. If Ron is in police custody, with no access to weapons, and the killers aren't there, he wouldn't be much of a threat.

From what you're saying it seems like they have a body or some kind of remains.

His attorney, Terry Shoemaker, told First Coast News that Cummings and his family were advised to make funeral arrangements.

"Yeah, you can understand how Ron would be shocked at that because he's hoping it ends, but still holding hope that maybe they're wrong that maybe something else happened and this will end up as another false lead," Shoemaker said.

"He's not surprised," Shoemaker said, "and [Cummings] said if you go back and listen to the 911 tape he made a comment that night about "Cousin Joe.""

First Coast News has reviewed the 911 tape released by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. First Coast News cannot make out where Cummings mentions "Cousin Joe" Overstreet. However, some of the 911 call may have been redacted.

from TX mist. Thought this was threadworthy. IMO

I feel you need to know that PCSO has NOT told the family to make funeral arrangements. I know this for a fact. I have no idea where Shoemaker got his information from but it was confirmed today that this is not true.

Everyone on this thread has been so kind and worried that I felt it was better to let you all know. I did get permission to pass this on to you.

Thanks, KSH--I posted earlier that for Shoemaker to make such a statement in a high profile case such as this, he must be pretty dang certain. I don't think anyone here at WS wants to intensify the family's pain. I think Shoemaker has some explaining to do and I've been checking the PCSO for any comments about his remarks and as of yet, have found none.

TY chica! It sure is nice to see you around!

Brings me to the Dunn? bridge search a few weeks ago.
Why did they look there and what did they find?

I agree and I read your earlier post on that. I think you might be on to something there and some evidence has been found.

After reading this thread and seeing that some think there is a body( no body has been found) , especially for them to be told to make funeral arrangements and the other things that people were ,I made a call and asked if I could let everyone here know that the statement was not correct.

Thanks out to everyone that cares so deeply.
