With all JVS' pathological issues, the simplest explanation might easily that gambling addiction might be the core pathology here. (JMO).....Again, just how I see things from what I've read.
Welcome Corq!
I think JVS's problems are a little more complex. Many people with addictions are otherwise harmless. Harmless ones are the ones that would be more likely to be the people with a gambling addition as their "core issue." Such an addiction does not explain:

Signs and symptoms of antisocial personality disorder may include:
Disregard for right and wrong
Persistent lying or deceit
Using charm or wit to manipulate others
Recurring difficulties with the law
Repeatedly violating the rights of others
Child abuse or neglect
Intimidation of others
Aggressive or violent behavior
Lack of remorse about harming others
Impulsive behavior
Agitation
Poor or abusive relationships
Irresponsible work behavior
...which JVS exhibited long before he became a gambling addict according to other statements/reports (which would be a "conduct disorder" diagnosis in his youth).
By the way, in the psychology world, the term "impulsive behavior" includes addictions. In other words, ASPD's tend to have addictions (and act impulsively in other ways).
