There are a lot of "ruled out" submissions here and that is helpful when searching, but can you tell us why they are not listed on the NamUs page if they are a NamUS case? It just seems logical if they know someone is ruled out, they have time to list them. Thanks for the update.

Whenever I have a contact with a LE or ME agency in charge of a UID. I almost always request that they publicize a rule-out listing in NamUs (or list their UID in NamUs if it isn't there already). Some say they will, but then they don't. Others say that even though they have looked at and ruled-out possible matches, they don't have a rule-out listing. Most of the names that you see in NamUs are those names generated by the NamUs automated matching system. Very rarely are these lists comprehensive.

It was my understanding the case manager was to check and/or correct information on NamUS and to list a rule out when someone submitted it and it was not a match. I see a big problem with that not being the case. They will continue to get submissions on a particular UP and soon will not look at any of them whereas if there was a rule out list, whoever is handling the submission can see the ruled out name first before spending time on one that is not a match. I had such hope for NamUS. The whole set up is great if the input is correct and current. Thanks
