FL - Tracy Ocasio, 27, Orlando/Ocoee, 27 May 2009 - #2

- Detectives with the Apopka Police Department tell FOX 35 that bones, believed to be those of a human, have been discovered in a retention pond near the intersection of Ocoee Apopka Road and Keene Road. The search of the pond was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into the 2009 disappearance of an Orange County man. Not long after Christopher George was reported missing, the 29-year-old's truck was located in a wooded area roughly 70 yards from an area where detectives searched on Monday.
The pond had been searched previously, but the water has since receded, which afforded detectives the opportunity to do a more thorough survey. Investigators believe the bones are part of a human spine, though the gender of the victim could not be determined. The bones have been sent to a lab for testing.

Tests results on the bone should determine whether the bone belongs to one of two people missing from Orange County for about two years.

Onda Christopher George, of Apopka, has been missing since Feb. 12, 2009. He was 29 at the time.

Tracy Ocasio, of Ocoee, has been missing since May 26, 2009. She was 27 at the time.

The two disappearances were 15 weeks apart, but investigators said they believe both George and Ocasio were last seen with the same man: James Hataway.

More bones were spotted Wednesday in a search for clues in Orange County in two missing person cases. Investigators began a third day of searching a lake near Apopka in Orange County on Wednesday morning.

Tuesday, investigators confirmed human bones were found in Lake Carter, and more bones were spotted Wednesday. Chris George was last seen in the area with James Hataway in 2009; Hataway is also a suspect in the disappearance of Tracy Ocasio from Ocoee.Investigators were sifting through the area Wednesday that they cleared overnight. They've been able to see bones sticking up that they haven't been able to get to yet, because they don't want to disturb the crime scene. For the second day in a row, two mothers gathered at the site where investigators found bones, and spotted more bones Wednesday morning.

On Monday, detectives bone fragments believed to be part of a human spine, though the gender was unkown. A day later, a human skull was uncovered after the water had receded, and on Wednesday, detectives found part of a cell phone and articles of clothing along with additional human remains, including a femur.

"Nothing has been removed from the lake at this point. As I said evidence is the top priority. We are taking this as a methodical approach. There is no hurry."
The draining will take a least another day and removing evidence will take them at least into the weekend.
Investigators told us, there was no trauma to the skull at first glance. It is still unclear if there is more than one body in the lake bed and the identity will not be confirmed until additional lab tests can be conducted.

Amid Bones Search, New Person Of Interest Emerges

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Bones may help solve a 2-year-old mystery in Orange County in the search for two missing people. Crews may have found more than bones in an Apopka lake, and only WFTV has learned there may now be a second person of interest in the case.

Another interesting snip:

A crime website quoting an unnamed investigator also claims a cell phone was found during the search that is the same kind Chris George last had in his possession, but at this point investigators say they don't want to talk about that; nor will they talk about the skull.

Tracy Ocasio: Nancy Grace America's Missing

tracy-blog-post.jpg

Tracy Ocasio was last seen on surveillance video leaving a bar in Orlando, Florida. James Hataway was the last known person to see the 27-year-old young woman alive.

The two had met at a bar just a week before she disappeared. She had not hung out with him outside the bar until the night she disappeared when she gave him a ride home. Hataway told police Tracy dropped him off at home and then she left. Tracy’s car, a yellow Chevy Cobalt, was found the same afternoon after she was last seen abandoned blocks away from Hataway’s home. While Tracy’s purse was in the car – her keys, cell phone, and id were gone. Hataway has been named a suspect in Tracy’s disappearance and police confirm he took a polygraph but failed “miserably”. Where is Tracy Ocasio?

Bones Exposed At Apopka Lake Search Scene
Crews were back out Thursday searching an Apopka lake for clues about two missing people. (02/24/11)

APOPKA, Fla. -- Police investigators said Thursday afternoon that a missing man's wallet was found at the scene where bones were being unearthed from a partially drained Apopka lake.

It looks like they've found the remains of Chris George, who disappeared two years ago down a dirt road near Lake Carter (see map). Investigators say the bones they found all week are from a male body, and they've found other personal items, such as jewelry that George's mother has identified.

Investigators also said that a wallet with Chris George's ID inside it and a cell phone matching the one he had were both found at the scene at Lake Carter. Thursday afternoon, police said they are not going to stop looking for missing woman Tracy Ocasio in the lake.

My thoughts in regards to finding Tracy.....they need to go back and re-search Lake Bennett, not far from JH's home. This is the same Lake that a boot was found that was thought to be Tracy's & 4 different cadavar dogs hit on something near the shore. They did search before but found nothing.......I think they need to start draining it!

I thoroughly agree about Lake Bennett and the need to re-search and drain it...

Has LE issued any further statements regarding the search?
It has been a while since this info came out.

The latest search did not turn up anything, but Tracy's father said after getting some new tips in the case, more new searches are planned in the coming weeks.

I hope they find her for the parents sake. FL has so many women missing and a lot of them were last seen with someone they knew. Pretty soon we will need our own web site for these women, dedicated to just searches done for FL woman. I guess these men are getting smarter and getting away with murder.

Prayers of peace for Tracy and her family. No parent should wonder where their child is even for one night.

:bump:

Bumping for Tracy and her loved ones. It's been 3 years now and it's time to bring Tracy home!
