With two indictments handed down for the murders of Mickey Shunick in the Lafayette area, 05/19/2012; and Lisa Pate in Church Point, LA, 07/03/1999; Brandon Lavergne fits the criteria for a serial killer suspect.

Serial Murder: The unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offender(s), in separate events.

http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/serial-murder

LE is looking into area unsolved murders and missing persons cases either to confirm or rule out Lavergne's involvement.

Judice noted that Lafayette Parish has roughly two dozen unresolved missing person cases that date back to roughly 1997.

“As much as we’re looking at cases he could have possibly been involved with, we’re also looking to clear him from cases as well,” Cpt. Judice, explained.

http://www.nbc33tv.com/news/crimetr...s-for-possible-connection-to-brandon-lavergne

Kim Myers, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, said detectives there are in the process of comparing their unsolved cases to Lavergne to see if there are any connections.
"At this time, there's nothing that really jumps out at them, but they are definitely trying to determine if there is anything there," Myers said.

Use this thread to look at cases in south Lousiana and Texas that might reasonably be attributed to BSL. Cases from 2000-2008 when he was incarcerated should be omitted.

Arrest Made in Mickey Shunick Case

The Lafayette Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the Shunick Family, all of the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation, countless volunteers, private business entities, and the public that have assisted in the search and continue to be there as this investigation remains ongoing. I must caution all of you that although an arrest has been made in this case, much work remains to be done.
Working with our Federal, State and local partners, the Lafayette Police Department has arrested Brandon Scott Lavergne and charged him with 1st Degree Murder and Aggravated Kidnapping. Lavergne is believed to be responsible for the disappearance of Michaela “Mickey” Shunick.
On May 19th of this year, the Shunick family reported Mickey’s disappearance. She had not returned home, missed her brother’s graduation from high school, had notified no one of her location, and did not respond to calls made to her cell phone.
On May 25, video evidence was discovered from an LCG facility that captured Mickey on her bike. Several vehicles were observed in the same video and broadcast to the public as vehicles of interest. All of the vehicles of interest were ruled out except for a white Chevrolet Z71 pickup. The driver as well as the vehicle was not ever identified nor did anyone come forward.
On May 26, Mickey’s bike was located under the Whiskey Bay Bridge on I-10 with damage to the rear tire consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
On June 14, Investigators received information from a concerned citizen, regarding a white Z71 that may be involved in Mickey’s disappearance. The vehicle in question was registered to Brandon Lavergne. Further investigation revealed that the truck was reported stolen in Montgomery County, Texas and later located in San Jacinto County, Texas on May 31st. The truck had been burned just days after police released photographs of the truck as a vehicle of interest.
Based on information and surveillance detectives were able to positively identify the truck that traveled directly behind Mickey in the video as belonging to Brandon Lavergne. Investigators are also able to place Brandon Lavergne in and around the location of where the bicycle was located.
On Thursday, July 5, Louisiana State Police conducted a traffic stop on Lavergne near the intersection of I-10 and I-49. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant and transported to the Lafayette Police Department.
During questioning at Lafayette PD, Lavergne requested an attorney and has refused to cooperate any further with the investigation. At that time, he was additionally charged with the aggravated kidnapping and murder of Mickey Shunick.
This has been a very difficult ordeal for the Shunick Family and we thank them for their continuous cooperation, encouragement, and support in our attempts to determine what happened to Mickey. We want the family to know that we will not rest until we can fully know what happened to her. We continue our efforts to locate and bring Mickey home.
This type of case can overwhelm one agency. A tremendous amount of time, equipment, and resources have been put into this investigation. I would be remiss in my duties if I did not acknowledge and thank all of the agencies and private businesses that have been with us from day one of this case: LPSO, ULPD, Lafayette City Marshal’s Office, LSP, SMSO, SLSO, Iberia SO, Iberville SO, East Baton Rouge SO, Acadia SO, Patterson PD, FBI, US Marshal’s Service, LSP Crime Lab, Acadian Crime Lab, C & C Technologies, and Holbrook Media. It is these types of partnerships that have made an arrest possible in this matter.
I will take questions at this time but I want to caution you that because the investigation is on-going, there is a lot of information that we will not be able to divulge or discuss.

Don't slap me Bessie... Does anyone think BSL may have moved MS and a victim or two from the fresh mounds the farmer reported because the heat was on?

Good morning Okay then. My opinion on your question is.... anything is possible with him. However, I would think/hope that when LE investigated those fresh mounds... they looked for remains as well as have dogs determine if anything was "ever there".

I have been researching this particular case because of its close proximity to the salon Lavergne has gone to for the past three years though it is reported he was not a regular customer. At first Guillory's case was thought to be related to the Jennings killings but she was disposed in a different manner than those killings were.

Bourriague says Lavergne was not a regular customer. Over the past three years she estimates she cut his hair five times.
The stylist says Lavergne first tried hooking up with her when she started working at the salon three years ago.

http://www.theind.com/news/10922-crowley-hairdresser-lavergne-had-knife-wound-on-neck

If the body recovered Wednesday is determined to be part of that string of killings, it represents a major shift in the method in which the bodies were disposed. Whereas the other victims were mainly found along rural roads and in canals, this victim was found right along the side of the main thoroughfare in south Louisiana.

Guillory’s body was discovered at 2:26 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 between mile marker 72 and 73 by a worker mowing grass along the interstate.

Hi Harmony2, interesting links. Have you found any connection between NG and the hair salon where BSL reportedly got his hair cut over the past couple years. I recall from the woman saying that BSL tried to get her to date beginning about 2 years ago.

NG case would fit in timeframe that BSL was out of jail right? And NG's body was found in a "different environment" from the others associated with the Jennings SK cases?

These are 9 women that went missing in the Texas area that Lavergne is known to visit, prior to Feb 18, 2000 or after August 9, 2008.
Victoria Sunday's remains were found 10/10/2000 but the other 8 are still missing.
Kimberly Ann Langwell's boyfriend is a POI in her disappearance so she is likely not a victim of Lavergne's.
I excluded JoAnn Sendejas ( http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/sendejas_jo.html ) who went missing 12/24/1999 as it is known that Lavergne was assaulting his wife on that day in Louisiana. This may or may not be a proper exclusion.

I've also been bothered by the fact that Necole Guillory's body was found in an entirely different parish (Laverne's home parish) than the other 7 Jennings victims. Thank you for posting her, Harmony2. And yes, she fits the timeline of when Lavergne was not in prison, JustyThoughts.

There are more Louisiana women missing, but some are over 45 years of age, some are black, and not sure if we should narrow focus on young white females only or not. Thoughts?

I thought I understood the dogs were brought in for the 3rd mound, but my memory has begun to fail me. But they did bring in dogs.

The timing of Victoria Deann Sunday's murder in Montgomery, TX makes me want to take a closer look at BSL. We know he brutally assaulted a young woman in April of 1999, and Lisa Pate was murdered in June/July the same year.

So far I haven't found much information about Sunday. She was last seen in on March 24, 1999. About a month later her daughter reported her missing. In October, 2000, a child found her skeletal remains on FM 149 in Montgomery.

Skeletal remains ID'd as woman missing since '99

Here's a map. A is her home, B is the Dacus area where she was going to the grocery store, and C is where her remains were located.

I was watching the ID channel yesterday about a SK and one of the FBI agents said that the FBI classifies a person as a SK when they murder 3 or more people.

Never knew that.

That has changed. There is a link in the MS forum, I will ETA when I find it.

ETA: "*UPDATE: In July 2008 the FBI authored a report as a result of a symposium held in 2005 in which they revised their definition of serial murder to the following: "Serial Murder: The unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offender(s), in separate events" (p. 9)."
