Gilamon, can you recall seeing anything potentially strange in your area, you know, in hindsight, that could be significant? Any strange vehicles hanging around, anything disturbed or out of place that you can think of, etc etc...

Another thought too is that it might be a good idea to call LE tomorrow to mention the burial area in or near your property. If they are back in the area tomorrow it wouldn't hurt mentioning it to see if they can check it out while they are nearby

I really have to commend them...\working so hard on a Sunday at that...

Very often LE searches places to "rule out" places, and not necessarily because they think there is a strong indication that something could materialize.

But from Gilamon's post, it sure is hard not to be hopeful considering LE said they feel optimistic about it being a strong lead.

These guys volunteered to come up from Hampton Roads to search. They've had volunteers from all over the state coming in on their days off and staying away from their families.

They're all to be commended. Dogs included. Or perhaps especially (no offense humans!).

About Gilamon's post: Mightn't it be permissible for LE to drive through/across someone's property in order to get to a property they intend to search?

Any ideas?
If it's the only access road, then my guess is yes. My neighbors have an access road running through their property to an old homestead. They are required to keep it open and free from vehicles in case of an emergency.

ETA: :nevermind: Gilamon already replied and explained the terrain -- was not an access road.

Anybody else think the report of today's search on someone's private farm is a hoax? Kind of like the web/ deer cam video that supposedly was JM and just disappeared? Just to get us going?

FWIW, I don't think it's a hoax and I'm glad this poster told us about it.

Piaget, I did reply to this question earlier. There is no way I could make this story up. I had dinner plans tonight to go to a fund raiser, and instead I was bushwhacking through the nether regions of this property I've never seen.

Welcome, Gilamon, and thank you for your posts and accounting of what happened today on your farm. The search sounds hopeful, and maybe tomorrow we will get some answers. Thank you for giving up your personal time to help find Hannah. I am sure her family is most grateful. I want to thank you in advance for going to the cemetery tomorrow, as well. I hope folks near you will check their land since searchers think this area may be important.

Hmmmm...interesting. Thanks.

If you haven't seen it, the site above is a fabulous piece of work with maps and aerials of where MH was found and various options of routes to have gotten her there. Great note was made of MH having been placed "with intent" and him having had to overcome great obstacles including a creek and barbed wire fences and quite a trek through the woods.

The description Gilamon gives above of JM's options if Hannah is to be found in this area aren't much different.

[Completely as an aside, I was surprised she wasn't any closer to dense woods than she was (there is some potential thought that she was pushed out of a treeline because of heavy melting snow, rather than having been placed in the field where she was found - but either way, she wasn't in dense woods).]

Someone asked Gilamon about his neighbors giving LE access to search their property. I cannot imagine anyone *not* allowing a search - especially if they have seen HG's parents pleas for help. Prayers that tomorrow might be "the day"!!

I see no reason to think it is a hoax, and see no reason to be anything other than welcoming to anyone new who joins us here, especially locals who have insight that most of us cannot have. I believe the post is completely legit, and even if I didn't, I wouldn't call that person out without some conflicting facts to base my feelings on. JMO

Agree completely, most important feedback in this process is ground truth. Only people in the vicinity can do that.

That is, if they are home and regularly occupy the property. They seem to be on a very limited timeframe because the Hampton crew has to go back home.

Just to clarify for you how I am coming to these access conclusions, it is based on standing in the middle of the woods with the search team, getting an updated ping location, and recognizing that we were still half a mile away. Then looking at google earth, it was clear how someone would get to that particular location. The caveats being, that pings are not perfectly accurate, and I still haven't heard from anyone whether a time stamp is involved or what a "ping" really is. Does anyone know how this works?

I am by no means knowledgeable about this. What I understand is that as you pass cell phone towers your phone signal pings off the tower, then by triangulating the signal from various towers a rough location can be determined.

Someone in SAR explained the pinging to me briefly though I am sure there are others here with much greater information. But, effectively, the pings jump from cell tower to cell tower, so they can see where your phone was relative to any number of towers (time stamped or not, I don't know, but it sounds like it). The farther apart the towers (like out in the country, where we don't get cell reception at our houses!), the more inaccurate the pings in terms of coordinates. So instead of being accurate to, say, 100 yards, it's accurate to, perhaps, 1000 yards.

How LE gets that information, and in what format (graphical, GIS, text data) I have no idea.

I do know from another case that the pings are time stamped to the minute, but I am no expert on pings in general.

Who committed suicide first? Who was second?

There was a body they found, not sure where as the search was going on. It was eventually reported to have been a suicide. Then the one reported today.

Wow!!! Thanks! Looks like he went to quite some lengths!! This is troublesome for possibly finding Hannah...This sheds a whole new light on things for me, as far as steering away from an easy dump, etc...

This question is in relation to cell phone pings and GPS, however off topic due to the fact I am asking for personal reason. I have a daughter who is in college in another state and we are looking at what app is best to track her phone in case we need to. We have AT&T and she will soon have a Samsung Galaxy. I appreciate any information any of you can give me. Please PM me with your advice as I understand this topic could disrupt this forum. I truly do not want to derail this forum but am confident about posting this here because I do believe you guys are the best of the best when it comes to protecting our precious assets!!

Everyone needs to check this out imo!
