Considering the size of the town, that gas station might well have the only flatbed wrecker in town - at any rate, it appears that the driver stopped at the garage on route to wherever they eventually took the car.
BBM That's exactly what would happen in our town. There is one flatbed wrecker service to call and they get called out. Hubby and I have worked at first responders and we always call that one guy (who we know well) to come to the scene and hubby even helps "Joe" (not his name obviously) secure the wreck and get it onto the wrecker and even helps clean up the scene.
However, in Louisiana, when there is a fatality in a wreck (not saying this was a wreck but it was something close enough looking to a wreck to garner the same procedure), it automatically means that state police come to the scene and take over. Our local guys assist and do our usual part but the state police takes over the investigation with pics, surveys and all sorts of other investigative methods.
