In the wake of the devastating terrorist attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that resulted in the deaths of 12 people, CNN, along with other news outlets, has chosen to censor the controversial cartoons that ran in the magazine.

Other news outlets, including the New York Daily News, the Telegraph and the Associated Press, have also chosen not to show the cartoons in full.

These news organizations can not be trusted (imo) because they are selecting what we see and read.

Ya gotta laugh.

Promotes lustiness? Er....okay, I don't know about the rest of you but I have never in my life gotten the hots for a snowman.

This is starting to sound as ignorant as the crap we heard out of Ferguson. "Burn the ***** down," the ***** burned and ...

"Melt that sinful snow," LOL, this is too funny, I think I'm becoming hysterical.

'Ell, I won't even take off my pants in the snow, LOL. These guys ever been in the snow? Things shrivel instead of getting lusty. How stupid.

#CharlieHebdo Mag also says this week that it thanks those who genuinely defend freedom of speech "but rest can go *advertiser censored* themselves."

#CharlieHebdo Mag strongly criticises those who say "we condemn terrorism but..."

I hope this isn't too off topic and it's ok to link, but I thought in the midst of something so awful, and as loons continue to issue fatwas over something as joyful and universal as a snowman, this might be in order. It's an expression of the fact that there are governments and politics and religions and cultures and terrorists and violence in this world, and then there are just plain people who aren't that different.

My thoughts are with France and its people. May you dance!

I love it! thank you

<snip> Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, told the Today programme that Charlie Hebdo had no choice but to print the cover it had.

“You cannot have a march through the streets of Paris attended by 46 world leaders, 4 million people, climaxing with a shout of ‘We are not afraid’ and then not print the central object of contention,” he said. “Of course they are right to do that and I am afraid it is absolutely vital now that everybody stands up and defends their right to publish. You may not agree with what they have done, you may be offended by what they have done, but you should defend their right to publish it.”

LARGEST ISLAMIC BODY IN THE WORLD CALLS FOR MORE ANTI-FREE SPEECH LAWS IN THE WAKE OF CHARLIE HEBDO ATTACK

PJMedia reports
http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2015/01/1...amation-laws-in-wake-of-charlie-hebdo-attack/

Last week’s terror attack targeting French magazine Charlie Hebdo‘s office in Paris has sparked a global conversation about the nature of free speech, with the “Je Suis Charlie” hashtag in support of the murdered Charlie Hebdo staff going viral and becoming the most used hashtag in the history of Twitter.

But this afternoon, the UN representative for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ufuk Gokcen, was expressing another view with respect to free speech.

The OIC is comprised of the 57 Muslim-majority nations and the Palestinian Authority. They are the largest bloc at the UN, and when they meet on the head-of-state level, they literally speak for the Muslim world.

So it is noteworthy that after the Charlie Hebdo attack, Gokcen is now calling for more implementation of the OIC-sponsored UN Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18 and the follow-up Rabat Plan of Action that would criminalize the very type of speech that Charlie Hebdo engaged in.

Cartoonist - who escaped Paris because he overslept - breaks down as he defends decision to draw image of weeping Prophet Muhammad on next edition's front cover

"Mr Luzier, who escaped the massacre because he had overslept by half an hour, described crying after he drew the picture.
He said: 'We are cartoonists and we like drawing little characters, just as we were as children.
'The terrorists, they were kids, they drew just like we did, just like all children do.
'At one point, they lost their sense of humour. At one point, they lost the soul of their child which allowed them to look at the world with a certain distance.'
He added: 'I'm sorry we've drawn him yet again, but the Mohammad we've drawn is just a little guy who's crying.' "

It's very moving to know how the cartoon for the cover was made. Thank you for sharing it.

I wonder does someone make this chit up as they go, cause it seems these people are looking for a fight. jmo This being offended is over the top. jmo

I do believe I've heard of everything now. I wish all the nuts would just go find their own planet to live on.

You're welcome! I'm so glad I could find some small gesture that expresses my heart for France.

That's all I've been watching since I saw your post! I've been watching all the versions and outtakes -makes me smile each time. So cool :blowkiss:

DEFENDING ISLAM FROM FREE SPEECH

USA Today:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/opini...oic-un-hate-speech-criticism-column/21609273/

Many have taken false comfort in blaming the cold-blooded attack of Charlie Hebdo on the fanatical action of a small minority of Muslims. But attributing the horror perpetrated in Paris to a band of Salafist radicals alone betrays a willful blindness to a longstanding campaign by broad-based Islamic groups to silence those they consider blasphemers.

The Islamic State and al-Qaeda are by no means the most powerful purveyors of the destructive idea that Islam demands unqualified protection against perceived insult. In the aftermath of the Paris attack, reputable Muslim groups around the world have denounced the violence, but important bodies such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, as well as many of the individual states comprising these groups, must bear responsibility for nurturing an environment that breeds violence in the name of defending Islam.
(...)
For more than a decade, "the collective voice of the Muslim world" has spread the belief that any insult directed against the Muslim faith or its prophet demands absolute suppression. Quashing "defamation of Islam" is enshrined as a chief objective in the organization's charter.

(...)
Translated into practice inside Islamic nations and increasingly elsewhere, this toxic vision breeds contempt for freedom of religion and expression, justifies the killing of Muslims and non-Muslims alike, and casts a pall of self-censorship over academia and the arts.

For instance, USA's ally Jordan is a member of OIC.

The Guardian this morning:
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jan/13/charlie-hebdo-cover-magazine-prophet-muhammad

Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan said the latest cartoon had added more salt to the wound.
He said: “If the cartoon had read ‘Je suis Ahmed’, given that many were carrying that badge after the police Ahmed Merabet who was killed, might not have put more salt to the wound but taken it to another level.”

Ah that I agree entirely with. But then how can we agree on who is nuts and who isn't? We would certainly all have different views on who is nuts and the degree of nuttiness ;)
