Lucky girl! Why are people (comments on news sites etc) suspicious of this story?

I had no idea they were. Only thing I can think of is that this is such an amazing survival story, they're having trouble accepting it.

Autumn told her dad (who had no idea her step grandpa had a pilot's license and would be flying her himself) that the plane flew through a bank of cloud and straight into the side of a mountain, and caught fire. She tried to pull her grandparents out and waited with them for a day until hiking down the 'Easy Pass' trail for two days, which rescuers say is some of the toughest, most challenging terrain there is.

Autumn got through all that with just scratches and a temporary 'breakdown' in muscle tissue from too much exercise.

The wreckage and step-grandparents Leland and Sharon Bowman have still not been located but the search will continue today, weather permitting.

Here is a picture of the trail she hiked down. It looks like they are going to have their work cut out for them to find the plane.

there`s a fundraising acc`t because she lost her laptop, cell phone, art supplies, make-up, and clothing

Search crews have spotted wreckage near the area where Autumn emerged but haven't been able to reach it yet. The operation to retrieve the bodies of Mr and Mrs Bowman will continue today.

It has been confirmed by LE enforcement officials that Autumn told them her step-grandparents did not survive the crash.

I hate to be critical of the rescuers, but they should have taken tracking dogs out there and back tracked her yesterday. I know there are no survivors, so it's not a priority. But come on, you can't get to a plane crash in the woods like that without walking.

Another plane is missing in Washington.

Crews searching Whatcom County for a missing private plane overdue to Orcas Island

Date: Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Contact: Barbara LaBoe, WSDOT communications, 360-705-7080 (Olympia), 360-350-2953 (mobile)

This is a second plane search, unconnected to one launched Sunday near Skagit County.

OLYMPIA – WSDOT Aviation Emergency Services has launched a search for a plane due to Orcas Island Saturday which never arrived. The search area is in Whatcom County at this point.

The private plane's two occupants were on vacation in the area from Minnesota and they did not arrive Saturday. We do not have an exact time it was due to Orcas Island on Saturday, just that it didn’t arrive.

Family did not notify officials of the overdue plane until Tuesday night.

More details will be announced as they become available.

NOTE: This search is separate from the one for a Montana plane that also disappeared Saturday near Mazama. Ground crews are hoping to reach wreckage spotted in that search area Tuesday. No identification of the plane or occupants has been made at this point.

Lucky girl! Why are people (comments on news sites etc) suspicious of this story?

The first day or so after she was found authorities reported she didn't tell them anything about her grandparents, then her dad mentioned to the media that the grandparents were deceased.

I think people are naturally skeptical when something seems unbelievable, like balloon boy, in this case two people apparently died in the crash while a 3rd walked away w/minor injuries after a plane crash.

Walking miracles: 7 people who survived horrific plane crashes

Sailor Gutzler
In early 2015, 7-year-old Gutzler was the only survivor of a crash that killed her parents, sister and cousin. The family was flying from Florida to Illinois, with Gutzler’s dad piloting the plane. The flight went down in Kentucky. Gutzler pulled herself from the wreckage and walked a mile through cold, dark woods to a stranger’s home.
Harrison Ford
Earlier this year, the actor broke his pelvis and ankle when he crashed his World War II era plane on a golf course. Since recovering, he has been spotted flying yet again.
Austin Hatch
Hatch, a college student at the University of Michigan survived not one, but two plane crashes, according to ABC. The first crash in 2003 killed his mom and two siblings. The second, in 2011, killed his father and stepmother. While the second crash left him with brain and other injuries, he was able to recover and play college basketball.
Jim Polehinke
In 2006, Polehinke was the only survivor of a crash at a Lexington, Kentucky airport. According to USA Today, forty-nine other people lost their lives when the plane tried to take off from a runway that was too short. Polehinke was the co-pilot of the plane.
Cecelia Crocker
At only 4 years old, Crocker was the only survivor of a 1987 plane crash that killed 154 people near Detroit. Her entire family died in the crash, including her parents and brother.
George Lamson Jr.
In 1985, George Lamson survived a charter flight in Reno that crashed shortly after takeoff. Lamson was only 17. According to CNN, Lamson was thrown from the plane but managed to survive when 70 of his fellow passengers, including his father, did not.

Interesting that the two planes crashed the same day, less then maybe 50 miles apart.

Bodies found in wreckage of plane crash that teen survived

SEATTLE -- Ground search crews recovered two bodies Wednesday from the wreckage of a small airplane that crashed into a Washington state mountainside over the weekend, forcing a teenager who survived the impact to hike her way off a rugged slope to safety.

The wreckage was extensively burned, and was in fact still smoldering and flaring up when searchers arrived, said Tom Molitor, a deputy with the Skagit County Sheriff's Office, who confirmed the discovery in a statement.

A different set of searchers on Wednesday located what was believed to be the wreckage of an airplane that took off from Minnesota with two people on board who were scheduled to arrive at Orcas Island on Saturday. Officials said they haven't been able to confirm the debris is from the missing flight, or find any signs of survivors. Barbara LaBoe, a Washington state Transportation Department spokeswoman, also said there was no evidence the two flights were related.

Men who found airplane crash victim: She's 'remarkably strong'
Autumn Veatch, 16, walked out of Washington woods Monday

Chase Euerle told us when he spotted the disheveled-looking teen girl at the trailhead for Easy Pass on Monday, it was not going to be an ordinary hike.

“She walks over to us, and she's holding her hand, and she says, ‘My grandparents are dead. I've been walking through the woods for a few days. I need help,’” he recalls.

Euerle and his friend told KIRO 7 they wrote her off as a disgruntled teen, until they took a closer look at her.

“We started to notice that she had really bad blisters on her hand, and her hair was sort of singed. At that point I kind of realized she was all cut up. She had cuts, her clothes were cut up, she looked like she had been spending the past few days in the woods,” he says.
“She said that she did go up to the main road, for an hour or more and that nobody would stop to pick her up,” he says, but instead Veatch said she decided to walk back to the trailhead and waited near a parked car for its driver to come back.

Veatch was put into Euerle and Germann’s car and they offered her the food they had with them.

She didn’t want much, but took a Gatorade, and described how the plane had crashed.

“She said that the clouds just started coming in and visibility got really rough,” Euerle recounted, before they eventually crashed into a mountain.
