Officers searching for Kayleigh find a body

Issued on 18/11/15 at 11:45 p.m.

Officers searching for missing teenager Kayleigh Haywood have discovered a body in a field in Ibstock.

The body was found shortly after 10pm tonight (18 November).

Formal identification has not yet taken place. Kayleigh’s family have been informed of the discovery.

Kayleigh, from Measham, was last seen by her family at about 6pm on Friday 13 November, when she was dropped off outside Ibstock Community College, in Central Avenue.
Chief Superintendent David Sandall, Head of Crime, said: “Tonight, we have discovered a body in a field. While formal identification has yet to take place, Kayleigh’s family are aware of the discovery and enquiries are continuing.”

Two men, aged 27 and 28, remain in police custody arrested on suspicion of murder.

Im thinking it was an actual phone call with the parents though, which is why the police are asking for any information from Sat afternoon-Mon morning as it was proven from the phone call that she was still alive on the Saturday morning when she made contact with the parents. Jmo

A timeline I posted somewhere on this thread said she made contact with the parents on the Saturday morning & then they believe she was in the park (where her phone was found) on the Saturday afternoon. That's why I think the police are asking if anyone saw anything suspicious on that day x

So is it possible that she indeed met him on Friday. Actually left his house on Saturday. Was at the park, doing whatever/calling her parents. And then went back or was abducted by him/them?

I'm 24 and certainly when I was at school we had two police officers come in and talk to us about internet safety. This was back when typically you had one family computer in the home and no one had internet on their mobiles. I would like to hope that the police still continue to do this. Everything has changed so much even in the last 10 years.
I have heard horrific horrific things that young girls (as young as 12) get up to with their mobile phones, from friends who are brownie leaders etc. I know a 15 year old girl who gets bullied at school because she won't send nudes to the boys.

I am in the US, but they have implemented online safety in every computer lab class. So every year from 1st grade and up, they get an age appropriate education on computer safety. They always send home handy little pamphlets on what you can do as a parent and how to talk with your kids about it. I hope schools worldwide start doing this as well!

I hope in time her parents can find the strength to turn the loss of their daughter into something that could help other teenagers in the vein of what I said earlier, to educate young girls (and boys) about the dangers of meeting people online. Something like the Morgan Harrington "Help save the next girl" campaign in Virginia USA.
 
I was hoping beyond hope she'd be found safe. So sad.

They do this in the UK too - though I've never had a pamphlet home, perhaps I will speak to our school about it. My kids are pretty computer savvy but very heavily monitored (though I did recently let them sit and google images of sharks, to only seconds later hear them giggling having googled "bums", the rudest word they could think of I suspect!). It's the teen years that bother me, when you have to start letting them go and losing a grip on their decisions. I bet Kayleigh's parents are stunned that she appears to have gone willingly with a much older man.

Maybe I will just get my kids into Websleuths , that'll put them off meeting strangers...

Deeply inside him he knew there was no hope. The tears were so felt running down his face.

Poor Kayleigh, poor family of hers. Sad and cold world we live in. Life has no value or meaning for too

many people :(
 
Oh dear, it was only a matter of time wasn't it?

Wonder if she was found during a search of the area or if someone confessed.
 
I'm finding it so hard to get my head around what could have happened. Ok, teenage girl arranges to meet somebody she's met online and ends up missing. That's pretty straightforward and something we've all heard before... BUT in this case there are two men, who don't appear to have much in common other than knowing each other on FB. No tagging of each other in posts or messages to each other that I can see.

LH who it seems could be the "27 year old" she met up with. Certainly Kayleigh is on LH's friends list and he has liked some of her pics on facebook. He is a big fan of horror films and in 2013 was trying to film one of his own. He appears to have a dark sense of humour and describes his occupation as serial killer on facebook. He doesn't appear to hide who he is (ie not pretending to be somebody younger).

But then where does SB come into the equation? He appears to be a hardworking young man with his own gardening business. He doesn't have Kayleigh on his friends list, though he does have LH on there. The only link at all to Kayleigh appears to be that they both like trance music. Nothing particularly odd on his facebook, no horror pics or dark sense of humour evident. Yet it appears to be his van police were looking for and possibly his lock up that Kayleigh's clothes were found in.

Nothing I've heard or seen has suggested they were particuarly close, although they could be living together as neighbours referred to another man in his 20s recently moving in with SB, so what on earth do police think has happened?
