It’s the sort of face that would seem to stand out in a crowd.

The face looks like it belongs on a powerful, even menacing, man.

The top of the man’s head is very low in relation to the rest of his face. A projecting lower jaw, a very small mouth and high cheekbones are other striking - and one might assume readily recognizable — features.

Unfortunately, that has been the unrealized hope of police since the RCMP unveiled on April 22, 2014 a forensic reconstruction of human remains found in Malpeque Bay on June 7, 1997.

In 2010 the remains were exhumed so that a facial approximation could be completed by a forensic artist. Subsequent media publicity has failed to identify the man. His physical descriptors do not match missing persons from the Atlantic Canada region.

According to Regina police, Patrick Cyril Thauberger was last seen Sept. 3, 1997. He was 53 at the time of his disappearance. An investigation into the missing man case recently led to the discovery of an alleged grow op. (Regina Police Service/doenetwork.org)

The missing person is Patrick Cyril Thauberger who, according to one database, was 53 years old when he vanished after visiting family in Regina. Thauberger had been travelling by bus from Winnipeg to Edmonton and never arrived at his final destination.

Police believe the man was about five foot 11 with several missing teeth. They believe his ages was between 25 and 40.

This John Doe reminds me of the missing case of Guomundur Einarsson, 18 years at the time (1974) from Iceland...somehow he has a facial resemblance with this John Doe. His body was never found. What if he just took a boat out and went to PEI. Einarsson would have been around 43 years in 1997.

    The origin of the victim remains unknown and since he had been in the water for a number of weeks it is possible that he may have drifted with the tides. The deceased was wearing jeans with a bilingual logo and while he may be from Prince Edward Island, it is entirely possible that he may have originated from Quebec, Gaspe, northern New Brunswick or the Magdalen Islands.
