Latest tips in Midlothian fitness instructor’s slaying all lead to dead ends

Among the tips related to police have been a Dallas man who vandalized a church, a serial church burglar from Arlington and a man who accosted an elderly woman at a Louisiana Walmart while clothed in old-fashioned body armor.

Johnson said many tips are “laced with misinformation from social media” as well as inferences made from rumors surrounding the killing, which has drawn national attention, including an article in People magazine.

“We have also received tips from other law enforcement agencies, none of which have been related, but we are pleased that our law enforcement partners remain alert for information that may be possibly related,” Johnson said. “To give you an idea of the kind of tips received, they have involved a man in Dallas who vandalized a church, a serial church burglar from Arlington, and a man who accosted an elderly lady at a Walmart in Louisiana while wearing very old fashion body armor.”

The police continue to work to close or expand any credible leads, Johnson said, but many are difficult to evaluate because they are based on misinformation or rumors. Investigators are expecting the DNA test results from a bloody shirt to be announced next week, Johnson said.

“Several tips yielded additional interviews this week, but so far none that appear to be related,” Johnson said. “Again, we are confident that if law enforcement and the public remain alert, we will eventually get THE lead that leads us to this killer.”

Midlothian police say lab tests show blood on a shirt Missy Bevers' father-in-law dropped off at a dry cleaning business is not human blood.

The family said the blood came from a family dog, who was involved in a fight with another family member's dog. Police said the test results from the University of North Texas Science Center Laboratory show the blood was definitively not from a human.

Test results returned Monday from the UNT Health Science Center Laboratory definitively state a “test for the presence of human (primate) blood was negative,” police said.

“Much conjecture has surrounded this shirt and the family member who dropped it off,” police said in a statement. “We hope the release of this information will serve to resolve the questions that have arisen."

Investigation into Missy Bevers' death has 'slowed,' police say; new warrants released

Kevin Johnson, said in a weekly update Friday that the department had received additional cellphone service records from an April "tower dump" search warrant — adding that it would take some time to analyze the data.

Johnson also released search warrants for the Facebook accounts of Bevers, 45, and her husband, Brandon Bevers.

The warrants — issued in late April and sealed since then — seek information including messages, photos, IP addresses and account access information for the couple's accounts.

Johnson said the warrants didn't represent new information in the case.

"We didn't glean anything of significant evidentiary value from the execution of the warrants," he said.

The Bevers family is frustrated there's been no arrest, but Bevers' sister-in-law Kristi Stout says they're still hoping for justice, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reports.

"Nothing about this makes sense," said Stout. "Whoever did it spent a lot of time in the building, didn't take anything, but took a life."
