Midlothian police said DNA tests from a bloody shirt being investigated in the Missy Bevers murder case should be finished by next week.

Among the tips related to police have been a Dallas man who vandalized a church, a serial church burglar from Arlington and a man who accosted an elderly woman at a Louisiana Walmart while clothed in old-fashioned body armor.

Johnson said many tips are “laced with misinformation from social media” as well as inferences made from rumors surrounding the killing, which has drawn national attention, including an article in People magazine.

“We have also received tips from other law enforcement agencies, none of which have been related, but we are pleased that our law enforcement partners remain alert for information that may be possibly related,” Johnson said. “To give you an idea of the kind of tips received, they have involved a man in Dallas who vandalized a church, a serial church burglar from Arlington, and a man who accosted an elderly lady at a Walmart in Louisiana while wearing very old fashion body armor.”

The police continue to work to close or expand any credible leads, Johnson said, but many are difficult to evaluate because they are based on misinformation or rumors. Investigators are expecting the DNA test results from a bloody shirt to be announced next week, Johnson said.

“Several tips yielded additional interviews this week, but so far none that appear to be related,” Johnson said. “Again, we are confident that if law enforcement and the public remain alert, we will eventually get THE lead that leads us to this killer.”

Test results returned Monday from the UNT Health Science Center Laboratory definitively state a “test for the presence of human (primate) blood was negative,” police said.

“Much conjecture has surrounded this shirt and the family member who dropped it off,” police said in a statement. “We hope the release of this information will serve to resolve the questions that have arisen."

Midlothian police said DNA tests from a bloody shirt being investigated in the Missy Bevers murder case have tested positive for dog blood.

Test results released on Monday also said no human blood was found on the shirt, only the dog blood. Bevers’ father in law, Randall Bevers, dropped off the shirt at a local dry cleaner four day after her murder.

In a report released today from the UNT Health Science Center, the Laboratory says, “a presumptive test for the presence of blood was positive,” and that “a confirmatory test for the presence of human blood was negative.”

"We are very frustrated at this point that there are no answers after seven weeks," said Missy Bevers' sister-in-law Kristi Stout in a text message Tuesday.

Police have said family, friends and co-workers are not suspects.

"This entire event has changed our lives and no matter what we say, there are people out there who blame my family for Missy's death," Stout wrote.

The murder has captured headlines around the world and placed attention on the quiet town of Midlothian.
