Kentucky State Police got a call around 6:45 A.M. Saturday morning from someone fishing in the Green River near Johnson Springs Road in Hart County. That person told KSP they had found what they believed was a body.

When detectives arrived on scene, they found a dismembered body floating in a container in the Green River.

(...)

Eaton said KSP has not identified the victim, but "That's something that our detectives are working really hard to do. It's one of the most important things right away in this investigation."

Pettit took the body to the Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be performed Sunday morning. The investigation is still ongoing. No other details were released.

Hopefully police can soon identify who it is. Awful....

Thank you for starting this thread. What a horrible discovery.

Horrible!

Missing person in zone?
Crystal Rogers I believe is the closest (could be wrong). Also Whitney Copley, Michael Gorley, Linda Price and Brookelyn Farthing, were mentioned in another thread. Where all does this river cover? Who knows how far the container floated...

Green River is a tributary of the Ohio River, thus the flow of the current is generally from east to west.

It appears to flow unimpeded from Green River Lake near Campbellsville and Hatcher in Taylor County.

From Taylor County it flows into Green County and then into Hart County.

Approximate road miles from where the body was discovered to the outflow at Green River Lake is 40-50 miles by my Google maps reckoning. "Crow flies" distance is shorter, of course.

Distance in river miles from the lake outflow will be greater as the Green River meanders considerably.

Seems those listed are old cases...fwiw. The reports are say dismembered body....this one even says 'missing' body, which, well, I suppose, clearly this person is 'missing' from somewhere...

Missing body? Very Odd thing to say in an article......That has to be bad reporting.

I am betting it's an autocorrect issue not caught during proofreading.

Dunnville, KY, where Whitney Copley was last know seen, is located on Green River.

Dunnville is upstream from the dam at Green River Lake. (The dam is between where she was seen and where the as yet unidentified dismembered body was found.)

Dunnville is approximately 70 road miles from where the body was discovered.

I wish we knew more. Whitney Copley would be skeletal by now.

Robert Jones and Crystal Warner are also missing. Witnesses say they were shot in Springfield on July 3rd. The suspect took their bodies and left to dispose of them. He has been arrested, but won't disclose where their bodies are. He drove their car to Georgetown and left it where it was later discovered. Green River would be a large detour from Springfield to eventually Georgetown. Plus, I wouldn't think two bodies would fit in a plastic tote, so there would need to be another one (or it was disposed of separately). Here is a link to their thread.

Checking in hoping for an update. Hopefully we get more info tomorrow....

Fisherman details finding dismembered body in tote bag in Green River
July 24, 2016

(autopsy was completed Sunday)
While with several other fishermen, Bruton came across an unusual tote bag that he says was “on the edge of the river” about a quarter-mile from the boat ramp at H.H. Wilson Park in Hart County.

So it was a tote bag and not a container. I was thinking it was a plastic tub.

"You're expecting to go catch some small mouth bass and enjoy the river, and then all of a sudden*you come up on something like that,” said Bruton.

"We’ve got a lot of questions that we've got to try to answer,” said Trooper B.J. Eaton with Kentucky State Police.

Trooper Eaton says the only thing that is certain is that this is a homicide, but the identity of the victim remains unclear.

State Police will examine missing persons cases out of Hart County and surrounding areas, as detectives search for clues.

Wish it would be reported if male or female since autopsy was done yesterday.
No new details being released yet makes me wonder if police have already identified the body and are already after someone?
