Pastor said Bell had visited the church previously.

Bell was arraigned Wednesday morning, is currently at Pulaski County Detention Center.

''He was arrested in 1999 for his father's death (Indiana), manslaughter conviction, sentence was "several years in prison"

There was a warrant for his arrest issued (Indiana) for a strangulation charge.

No bond has been set.
Surveillance photos showed Bell was in Indiana the day after the murder. On Tuesday night, police in Dandridge, Tennessee, which is east of Knoxville, picked him up and arrested him.

The family says Bell had been seen around the church before looking for help.
"Just from what I have been told he started coming to the church, attended a few services, was a person in need, needed a place to stay," Jonathan New said.

There is a lot of info in this article for Sept. 1:

New and her late husband, J.S. New, founded the church some four decades ago.

Bell is also being sought in connection to a New Castle, Ind., strangulation assault.
“I heard he hurt a woman in Indiana, but I don’t know any details,” Branscum said of her nephew. “I pray he gets caught soon.”
Bell shot and killed his father, 49-year-old Roger Bell, in the Murl Community of Wayne County on March 1, 1999. Bell, then 22, was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter and spent seven years of a 15-year sentence in prison. He was paroled in 2005, but went back to prison in April 2008 for violating the terms of his parole. He served until October 1, 2012.

Branscum noted that Bell had a sister who lived in Indiana. “I called her and she said she hadn’t heard from Dwight,” Branscum said.

He stabbed a woman in the neck inside a church. Now he faces life in prison.

Dwight Mitchell Bell, 41, pleaded guilty to murder and first-degree robbery, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Eddy Montgomery.

Bell’s plea deal calls for a recommendation that he serve life without parole — meaning he would spend the rest of his life in prison — for murdering Ruthie Carolyn New and 20 years for robbing her.

Circuit Judge David Tapp scheduled Bell to be sentenced on Thursday. Tapp could reject the recommended sentence, but it is rare for judges to do so.

Thank you for the updates, JusticeWillBe! Ruthie deserves her justice.

Dwight Mitchell Bell, 41, avoided a potential death sentence earlier this week when he pleaded guilty to murder and first-degree robbery in the killing of Ruthie Carolyn New.

Pulaski Circuit Judge David Tapp accepted the plea deal recommendation Thursday afternoon and sentenced Bell to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

Family of New took Thursday’s sentencing of her killer as a chance to confront him for his crime.

“Dwight Bell chose to violently take the life of an innocent woman trying to help because that is what he wanted to do,” said Donna Meece, New’s sister.

“You took from all of us. You stole the innocence from this community,” said Judge Tapp.
