A Garfield County Coroner confirmed that the autopsy report has not been returned as of Friday evening. According to Garfield County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Holly Hopple, no information regarding the current status of the investigation was available.

Johler's dismembered body was found in an apple orchard, just off Interstate 70 and Canyon Creek Road, on June 12. A teenage orchard worker found Johler's remains in a bag that may have been torn open by animals. Her body was identified on June 19. She was last seen her Aurora home on May 1, and according to a 9NEWS report at the time of her disappearance, the Aurora Police described her as having a diminished mental capacity.

Authorities released a statement asking for anyone with information regarding the case to contact either the Garfield County Sheriff's Office at (970) 945-0453, Garfield County Crime Stoppers at (970) 9450-0101 or Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-7867. Investigators search apple orchard where remains were found

GLENWOOD SPRINGS (AP) - Investigators are again combing through an apple orchard near Glenwood Springs where the dismembered body of an Aurora woman was found over the summer.

Kirstie Steiner, who owns the property, says that Garfield County Sheriff's investigators told her they plan on bringing a specialist from Denver to look for other bones in their attempt to solve the murder of Janine Ann Johler.

An orchard worker found the 38-year-old woman's body about five miles west of Glenwood Springs.

The specialist searching Saturday and Sunday is with Necrosearch International. They specialize in searching for clandestine human remains and/or evidence.

Steiner says investigators told her she couldn't be on her property over the weekend while they conducted their search.

Clues sought in murder mystery

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Searchers returned Saturday to an orchard where a woman’s remains were found in June, hoping to find clues that might help lead to closure.

Garfield Sheriff Search and Rescue volunteers joined the Sheriff’s Department and about a half-dozen members of Colorado-based NecroSearch International to look among fallen leaves and apples for signs that might help solve the mystery behind the murder of Janine Johler, 38, of Aurora.

Johler’s dismembered remains were found June 12 in the orchard in Canyon Creek, off Interstate 70 west of Glenwood Springs. The remains were identified as Johler’s later that month. She had been missing since May 1.

Crews searched the orchard and surrounding area intensively after the discovery of the remains. On Saturday, however, the Sheriff’s Department was assisted by volunteers from NecroSearch, a nonprofit organization that helps law enforcement agencies in searches involving clandestine gravesites.

The group includes about 35 people with expertise in areas ranging from animal scavenging to entomology to geology. It has assisted in more than 300 cases in more than 40 states and 10 countries.

Its president, Thomas Bellinger, a hydrologist, said group members help authorities examine the environment surrounding remains and consider how evidence and clues might move and change from factors such as animals and weather.

“It’s just a great way to try to … I guess give back a little bit,” Bellinger said.

Authorities declined to discuss what evidence searchers may have come across Saturday. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said investigators also aren’t commenting on where the investigation stands and whether any suspects have been identified

Experts search Garfield orchard for details on Aurora woman’s slaying

Published: Monday, October 26, 2009 9:31 PM MDT

AURORA | Authorities in Garfield County this week called in forensic experts to search an apple orchard where the dismembered body of an Aurora woman was found in June.

Janine Ann Johler, 38, was found in early June in the rural area near Canyon Creek and Interstate 70, west of Glenwood Springs.

The Garfield County sheriff’s office brought in forensic experts from NecroSearch International to search the area this weekend, hoping to find clues about the grisly slaying.

Deputy Tanny McGinnis, a spokeswoman for the Garfield County sheriff’s office, said investigators have been working with NecroSearch volunteers since Johler’s body was discovered this summer.

But because of scheduling issues, the NecroSearch team couldn’t search the field until this weekend, she said.

Investigators wanted to search the area before winter set in, she said.

“The reality was snow is going to start flying soon,” she said.

According to NecroSearch’s website, the organization is made up of scientists specializing in a variety of fields — including anthropology, archaeology and geology — who specialize in searching for forensic evidence, particularly for buried bodies.

McGinnis said the weekend’s search was fruitful, but she declined to say what exactly crews found while canvassing the area.

“We did learn some things this weekend that are really going to move us in some additional directions,” she said.

From May 2014:

Friends who knew Johler told investigators that she had a diminished mental capacity. She also had been in a car accident and was physically disabled as well. She had a limp.

In the years before her death, she had filed three requests for restraining orders against a man who was in jail at the time of Johler’s disappearance...

The FBI, Aurora police department, Garfield Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and Denver metro law enforcement continue to investigate the case.

Colorado Cold Cases: Dismembered body found in Garfield County tied to Colfax Avenue

For Megan Alstatt June 12, 2009, is the most memorable day of her law enforcement career.

That day she and fellow Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies walked slowly in a long line through an apple orchard five miles west of Glenwood Springs in a grid search for body parts and evidence. The case was the most gruesome homicide investigation of her career — the dismemberment murder 38-year-old Janine Johler.

Seven years later, Alstatt, who now leads the Johler unsolved homicide investigation, brought the case from a mountainside to Colfax Avenue where Johler worked as a prostitute.

“I’m starting from ground zero,” Alstatt said in a recent interview. “We went to where she walked and lived and breathed. I tried to see the world through her eyes.”

“We’re working with the FBI and CBI,” she said. “We definitely have the team mindset and we’re all very motivated. I 100 percent believe this is a solvable case.”

It takes at least three hours for Sue Kleppen to make the drive from Aurora to a particular orchard nestled among towering mountains west of Glenwood Springs, Colo., but she keeps going back year after year...

For more than seven years, the orchard off Creek Canyon Road, north of Highway 6 in Garfield County, has been the only place Kleppen and her family have had to call a memorial, of sorts, for Johler.

Kleppen hopes that someday she’ll never have to make the drive again.

Kleppen will keep going back for the time being; her daughter’s body remains sealed away in evidence storage, and the case remains a mystery...

They could at least let the family have her remains. I don't understand that. Very sad.

Anyone who may have information regarding Janine Johler’s murder is asked to contact the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office at 970-945-0453 or Colorado Bureau of Investigation at 303-239-4300.

Ok so it is 172 miles from downtown Aurora, CO to Glenwood Springs , CO.
Approximate drive time 2 hrs 53 mins.

That is quite the road trip to dispose of her body. I sure wish LE woould give a little more info out on her so that people may be able to help. It wouldnt suprise me if this Burns man had a hit put out on her.
For someone to go to all the trouble to dismember her and then leave all of her in the same place suggest that maybe they were running out of time to dispose of her here and there. They also felt like the had the time and privacy to do such a thing.
This poor woman..God Bless Her Soul.

Check this lady out!
