GUILTY Canada - Peter Gavin, 67, decapitated, East Gwillimbury, Ont, 26 June 2011

Basically same info.

There are quite a few missing people in Ontario, and Stouffville would be an ideal dumping ground, unfortunately. But as for "close" to Stouffville:

I always think of Mariam Makhniashvili from Toronto. London and Toronto area are not out of realm of possibilities, just a relatively short drive on the 401 to 404.
Or 401 to 400 and over.

Also, it appears the date in the thread title might be inaccurate. The link in the OP indicates the remains were found on Saturday, which would have been the 27th. A second search was conducted on Tuesday August 30th for additional remains.

Glad this man has been id'd and can be brought home to his family. Prayers said for all who knew and loved Mr. Gavin.

ETA: MSM gives both dates of the 30th and 27th.

from the link in my previous post:

Police are seen at a command post set up after human remains were found near Warden Avenue and Aurora Road in Whitchurch-Stouffville on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011.

Peter Gavin's skull was found in the field only 3 days after he was reported missing. He was last seen two months before. His photo has been released in order to help anyone remember seeing him before he died.

Peter Gavin's head found in grassy field, his body never recovered, trial hears
March 13, 2015

...Police say Cristian Chis, pronounced “quiche”, is responsible for the killing of Peter Gavin, his reclusive neighbour.

...The crown says the murder occurred June 26, 2011, when Chis took Gavin's life in the quonset hut that sits in between the two homes.

Police have located specks of Gavin's blood in the hut, including on the hay thrasher and some chains in the structure.

...The trial continues.

:justice: for Peter Gavin!

From April 2015:

http://www.yorkregion.com/news-stor...-degree-murder-after-5-hours-of-deliberation/

It didn’t take the 12-person jury long to decide the fate of Cristian Chis. At 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, he was found guilty of the first degree murder of his reclusive neighbour, Peter Gavin...

Chis (pronounced “quiche”) will now automatically spend the next 25 years of his life in jail...

Chis beat Gavin to death in his Quonset hut, but not before he managed to get his bank cards PIN numbers from Gavin... Chis drove to Markham and Scarborough to meet contacts who would help him pull money from the bank accounts... However rather than get the expected $100,000, the men were only able to withdraw about $13,000, police said.
