Police have confirmed they found the remains of Amber Kirwan, 19, on a property in Heathbell, Pictou County, on Saturday, and are investigating her death as a homicide.

In a news release late this morning, RCMP and New Glasgow police said they weren't disclosing the cause of death.

Kirwan had been missing since leaving Dooly's pool hall in New Glasgow on Oct. 9 after a night out with friends

The 19-year-old woman was reported missing over the Thanksgiving weekend last month when she disappeared after a night out with friends.
Kirwan was last seen leaving Dooly's pool hall in New Glasgow around 1:30 a.m. October 9. Her boyfriend says she was supposed to walk up the street to Big Al's, a nearby convenience store, but she never showed up.

A surveillance tape released by Dooly's shows the teen leaving the pool hall, crossing the street, and making her way towards Big Al's store.

Surveillance tapes from Big Al's show her boyfriend's car in the parking lot, but Kirwan never appears on the tapes.

Police investigating the killing of Amber Kirwan identified the three people who were outside a convenience store the night she vanished.
RCMP released grainy videos and still photos Tuesday, and had the names of the three individuals walking in the parking lot of Big Al's Convenience Store in New Glasgow within an hour of posting on social media.

“We are not disclosing what our specific investigation steps are, but I can confirm the individuals have been identified and we are interested in speaking with them regarding anything that they may have seen that evening,” said RCMP spokesman, Const. Brigdit Leger.

“The only reason we want to speak with these individuals is during the course of our investigation we obtained footage that showed they happened to be in the area.”

That's an interesting development. If they didn't have a car, they have nothing to worry about and they may have seen something that they didn't realize was important.

Crime Stopper tips a valuable aid in investigations: co-ordinator
ALMA – Fear of being identified is one the main reasons people don’t use Crime Stoppers to share information on a crime, says a Nova Scotia co-ordinator for the organization.

“People are fearful they are going to be the next victim of the bad guy,” said Sergeant Gary Frail. “The second thing that keeps them from using us is apathy. They want to know what is in it for them.”
Some tips comes in years after a crime is committed, while phone lines often light up in a hurry when the case receives a lot of media attention.

For example, he said, Crime Stoppers received 123 tips on the Amber Kirwan case, which have been passed along to investigating officers.

As with any case, police investigators will keep a journal entry of each tip and inform Crime Stoppers at a later date which tips were useful and if any should be considered for an reward.

He said Crime Stoppers does not investigate the tips, but rather passes the information on to police officers

No arrests yet?

Most probably not related to Amber's case, but thought I'll post this:
UPDATED 2 P.M. – New Glasgow police reopen MacLean Street and halt active search of the area.
NEW GLASGOW – Town police have blocked off a street in downtown New Glasgow around 10 minutes ago, at 1:40 p.m., to allow the canine unit to search the area. There is no further word on what is being investigated. The police closed down MacLean Street by J.R. Rahey's furniture store.

On front page, it says LE responded yesterday "Tuesday around 1:30 pm after receiving a report of shots fired in the area from a weapon....no injuries were reported"

Wow! I canNOT believe that they have not yet announced an arrest in Amber's case. R.I.P. Amber :rose: You were so beautiful, and you did not deserve to die.

Thinking about you Amber and hoping for justice to come soon.

Youth arrested, faces firearms charges

Police say the arrest was unrelated to a search along MacLean Street on Tuesday, where shots were reported to have been fired.

Still no arrest? I don't understand???? :banghead:

Come - on - Canada!! Make an arrest already - PLEASE!!

I have a very strong suspicion that there is more than one suspect in this case. I wonder if they are trying to get one to "rat" out the others?

They could bring in both suspects separately, question them both, release them and let the news media know a tidbit of information related to the case that only each of them would know and see who sings first, thinking the other person is talking.
I haven't seen or heard of any information like this in this case.

Just make the arrest(s) already - evidence from a lot of sources so what is the hold up?

Is it much more complicated than what we originally thought? Are there lots of people involved?

or could the delay simply be because ALL of the forensic results are not back yet?

*thinking of Amber and her family* :heartbeat:

I'm shocked nobody has been arrested yet. I'm wondering if COD is the reason. IF Amber had been drinking and/or drugs, could they be stuck on what her cause of death was? In other words, LE knows she was murdered but if toxicology reports came back to indicate there was enough drugs in her system to cause death would that impede the investigation?
