There is not a whole lot information out there one Amy. I found her by accident while reading the news this morning.

She apparently called for "motorist assistance" to the State Police on Friday.
On Sunday her Roommate reported her missing. The State Police went back to where they assisted her and her car and belongings were still in the same spot with no sign of her. (See both articles below)

Not much to go on here, not even a photo at this point. I put missing as of Friday since that was last time seen.

EDITED to change date to 8th (don't know where I got the 10th on Friday)

Friday would of been July 8, 2011 right? Is the title of the thread off or did I read the MSM wrong?

I can't figure out how to post the picture of her that is in the above link. Anyone able to lend a hand?

Here is her picture:

It sounds like she wasn't in Golden but 6-7 miles west up highway 6, in the mountains. The 7 News article says the sheriff believes she could have walked down to Clear Creek and fallen in. At this time of the year, with the snowmelt, Clear Creek is probably a violently rushing, swollen river. The post by her friend says she was hiking, which is different than just walking down to the river. The river runs right along highway 6 so I don't think you would be considered hiking if you just walked down to it. If she was hiking, I hope they are searching to make sure she isn't injured somewhere. I hope there isn't an issue with LE thinking she called for assistance when actually she didn't because she was away from the road hiking, and LE thinking she must have been close to her car when she wasn't. Also, there have been mountain lion attacks along the Front Range there in the past.

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Authorities are searching for a missing 38-year-old Denver woman whose Jeep was found parked Friday on Highway 6 near Golden.

So that article has just been corrected, surely after they saw her sister's comment, and now doesn't say that she contacted state troopers, but that a trooper saw her abandoned car and tagged it.

The latest. Searching has been going in the area around her car and...

Sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said investigators did not find any signs of a struggle near the car. They are investigating this as a missing persons case, but Kelley said officers are "considering all possibilities. She could have hitchhiked. She could have fallen into the river."

Crews search river for missing woman after Jeep found

Members of the Alpine Rescue Team spent the day on Monday walking alongside a swift-moving Clear Creek in hopes of finding out what might have happened to a 38-year-old woman from Denver.

[snip]

On Monday, Barwick and about 20 members of the Alpine Rescue Team responded to the area. Of chief concern, said Barwick, is Clear Creek, which remains swollen from recent rains and continuing snow melt.

The rivers and creeks are raging everywhere in Colorado. I live across from the Colorado river, I have lived here 8 years and I have never seen it so high and swift. It has been running at full bore for about the last month here, I would say it is up about 10 feet.

I hope she is found soon .... :(

Barwick says Ahonen's keys, wallet, and cell phone were found inside the Liberty leading him to believe that she didn't plan on walking too far that day. He also says the car was left unlocked.

While the parking/turnout area is close to a couple of trailheads, it's not an obvious place to park for either. Immediately to the north is a steep cliff that would be difficult, although not impossible, to scale.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said on Monday there are no immediate signs of foul play.

"There was nothing left at the scene that led us to any sort of conclusion," spokesperson Jacki Kelley said. "The scene itself told us literally nothing."

~~~~~~~~~
It seems to me that if she were going on a hike by herself, she would at least take her cell phone with her and lock up her Jeep. I wonder if she was meeting up with someone?
Also gleaned from the article, she missed work on Friday and her birthday was on Saturday - both of those occurrences led her friends/family to suspect something was wrong.
Yeah you definitely don't leave your car unlocked with your keys and phone in it when you are going hiking. Even with the river that close to the road, the question I have is whether you would leave your keys and phone in your unlocked car when walking over to the river.
Here you can see how close the river is to the road. Where she parked is probably in the distance, where the land juts out into the river.
And this might be the view from where she parked toward the river. I wouldn't leave the keys and my phone in the car and walk that far away from it, but that's just me.
The official search for a missing 38-year-old woman was suspended Tuesday. Rescue team leaders say they looked everywhere they could for the woman, without finding any sign of her.
Amy Ahonen has not been seen since Friday night when her S-U-V was found abandoned on Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon, just went of Golden. Investigators found Ahonen’s purse, credit cards, cell phone and car keys inside her unlocked Jeep, but no sign of her.
10pm, doesn't sound like a time when someone would go hiking alone, not to mention leaving their phone and leaving an unlocked vehicle.
Sounds suspicious to me.
