Body found in Caledon identified as young escort

A 20-year-old who moved to Toronto to work at an escort agency and went missing in January has been identified as the woman whose remains were found in a ditch in Caledon last Thursday.

A friend says Kera Freeland arrived in Toronto from Vancouver last December to work at Cachet Ladies, an escort agency with branches in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Whistler.

She was last seen on Sunday, Jan. 16 in the Lake Shore Blvd. W. and Queens Ave. area. In February, Toronto police issued a missing-person alert for her.

Freeland was diagnosed with cervical cancer in December, according to Deubelbeiss, who added that Freeland was also pregnant.

Her remains were found on Mar. 17 around 6 p.m. in a ditch on Heart Lake Rd., between Boston Mills Rd. and Olde Base Line Rd.

"She told Cachet Ladies that she was going back to Calgary to get treatment for her cervical cancer," he said, adding Freeland vowed to return when she was well.

On the Cachet Ladies website, the woman is described as a "top model" whose daily rate started at $4,000.

"Gentlemen" would find themselves intoxicated by her "beautiful body and facial features," says the site.

OPP investigators, who have notified Freeland's family, are considering her death suspicious and have appealed to the public for information on her final days.

"Our primary concern is how she ended up on that stretch on Heart Lake Rd.," said Const. Peter Leon.

The last text message she received from Freeland read, “Clyde, I’m so sorry. There’s so much drama going on right now. I can’t wait to get to your house tomorrow and tell you all about it.”

She never made it.

The two were supposed to meet up on Jan. 17, but Freeland didn’t show up.

A missing-person report was filed by Deubelbeiss and she also started a Facebook group in hopes of getting tips on her friend’s whereabouts.

“I knew something was horribly, horribly wrong,” said Deubelbeiss, her voice breaking.

Deubelbeiss said she tried to track down Freeland by pretending to be a prospective client in a phone call to Cachet Ladies.

“I thought she was alive for a while because they kept saying, ‘Yeah, yeah she’s on, she’ll be there in half an hour,’ so I thought maybe she was mad at me but…they would just send a different girl.”

Text Message:

-- Could LE track that last text message to find out WHERE was Kera when she sent it? Vancouver or Toronto area?

-- Did the friend get the impression Kera was scared when she wrote that message? Or more like she was all excited to "tell her all about it". IMO if Kera thought that she was in immediate danger, she would have worded it differently.

-- Did she actually go to Vancouver for cancer treatment like the escort service lawyer says?

-- Was her best friend aware that Kera went (or intended to go) to Vancouver?

-- Why did the e. agency kept saying she was still "on", when the lawyer says she left in December?

:( I have read that this kind of lifestyle makes it much more difficult for LE to find out what happened. Hopefully someone out there knows something, and comes forward to help LE.

MYSTERY SURROUNDS ESCORT AGENCY

Cachet Ladies escort service has a “good reputation” as a respected agency for women who want to get into the business, says Toronto criminal lawyer Gregory Leslie.

“They have a good rapport with police,” said Leslie, who represents Cachet. “They have a very good reputation for women who want to get into the field of escorting.”

At the same time, a certain amount of mystery surrounds the 10-year-old escort agency.

When QMI Agency called the number on Cachet’s website, a woman with an Australian accent answered and said she could not comment on the death of Kera Freeland, who worked as an escort for Cachet in December 2010.

Freeland, who was also known as Kera Gray and Meghan Parks, came to the agency on Dec. 4, 2010, and worked with Cachet Ladies from Dec. 6 to Dec. 20, the statement said.

According to Leslie, Freeland told Cachet that she would be travelling back to British Columbia to undergo cancer treatment and asked that the agency keep her photos on the website since she planned to return in February, 2011.

In mid-January, Leslie said, a friend of the victim called asking about her whereabouts and the agency refused to divulge personal information. The police contacted Cachet later that day and the agency co-operated fully, removing Freeland’s picture from the website.

The agency says it did not have any contact with Freeland after Dec. 20.

Can we move all of the posts about Kera to her own thread and keep this one for Sonia? Please

She had come to Toronto in December, looking to change her life. She had worked as an escort and was last seen on Sunday, January 16th. She was supposed to meet a friend the next day and never showed up. According to her friend, she had cervical cancer and was pregnant.

Apparently, her last day working as an escort was December 20th, information is in the video at this link:

Victim of a bad date?

"Freeland was working by herself last week
when her body was found Thursday in a ditch on Heart Lake Rd., in Caledon. Police are still investigating what caused her death."

I don't understand this. Was she seeing her own clients without Cachet Ladies? When exactly was the date of her phone message? She called her roommate to say she was leaving the date.

“I thought she was alive for a while because they kept saying, ‘Yeah, yeah she’s on, she’ll be there in half an hour,’ so I thought maybe she was mad at me but…they would just send a different girl.”

But her last time working there was Dec 20th. Was she working independently or for another agency? Who was the bad "date?"

Did Kera have a pimp? According to a Cachet Ladies escort, "Stephanie":
"Ninety percent of the girls work for a pimp, (because) the pimp’s trail is less traceable through the agency,” Stephanie insisted. Of course, the agency denies this but it seems like she was seeing someone, likely a pimp or a bad client, after her last working day. It's very weird that the agency was claiming that Kera was available to the friend who pretended to be a client, when she was looking for her. I don't know who to believe. JMO

Did Kera get killed because she was pregnant?

They haven't released the COD yet.
Just saying it is suspicious.

Here is a write-up from our local paper.

'I don't want people to see her as a hooker'
Friend mourns loss of Kera Freeland

By all accounts, young Kera Freeland was living a life on the margins when she died.

The 20-year-old's remains were found Thursday in a ditch on Heart Lake Rd. in Caledon just a few months after she had moved to Toronto to work as a call girl for an escort agency.

A friend recalled that in 2007 she was a pregnant teen living at a youth shelter in her home province of Alberta.

"She couldn't wait for the baby to be born," said Danzell McNeilly, who met Freeland at the Avenue 15 shelter in Calgary in the summer of 2007. "She had clothes, a carriage. I don't know how, but she had money to get them."

Freeman gave birth to Jayden — a baby boy — in September or October of that year, said McNeilly.

Freeland was always optimistic and kind, he added.

"She would alway put a smile on your face, (and) poke and prod you until she made you smile," said McNeilly, adding that she would often talk about having a wealthy family but never spoke about her reasons for leaving home.

"I don't want people to see her as a hooker," he said. "She was a kind person."

Freeland worked for Cachet Ladies escort service last Dec. 4 to Dec. 20, said Gregory Leslie, a lawyer for Cachet.

Freeland, who went by the name "Chloe," left Cachet a short time after joining the agency to return to Alberta for cancer treatment, said Leslie.

"She told Cachet Ladies that she was going back to Calgary to get treatment for her cervical cancer," he said, adding Freeland vowed to return when she was well.

On the Cachet Ladies website, the woman is described as a "top model" whose daily rate started at $4,000.

"Gentlemen," would find themselves intoxicated by her "beautiful body and facial features," says the site.

OPP investigators, who have notified Freeland's family, are considering her death suspicious and have appealed to the public for information on her final days.

"Our primary concern is how she ended up on that stretch on Heart Lake Rd." said Const. Peter Leon.
