A serial killer is defined as one who has killed three or more; Sweeney, just found guilty of two murders, is a safe bet to be classified as one. It's a case that bears watching as the body count could soar.

much more, including plenty of pictures, at Daily Mail link aboveMultiple murderer John Sweeney may have killed three more women and two men, said police on the day he was convicted of a double murder.
Sweeney, 54, was today found guilty at the Old Bailey of killing 33-year-old former model Melissa Halstead in 1990 and dumping her dismembered body in a canal in Rotterdam, Holland.
He also convicted of murdering mother-of-three Paula Fields, 31, ten years later and dumping six bags containing ten pieces of her body in the Regent's Canal in Camden, north London.

Police now want to know what became of two South American former girlfriends Sweeney used to see who have not been sighted since the 90s. Not much is known about them, except that one was a Colombian called Maria, the other a Brazilian woman known as Leani.
On top of this there may be a third missing woman, and police are also investigating Sweeney's claims to Miss Balmer that he killed two German men he caught with Miss Halstead.

A search of Sweeney's flat revealed more than 300 pieces of violent artwork and poems.
Brian Altman QC, prosecuting, told the jury: "Police discovered amongst his possessions often lurid and demonic sketches and paintings, as well as pages of verse which reveal an obsessive and virulent hatred of women, and a preoccupation with dismemberment. By butchering and disposing of bodies in this way, the killer had intended that neither they should be identified, nor he should be."

Another sketch, The Scalphunter, showed women tied up and another showed Sweeney holding up blades dripping with blood.
[Prosecutor Brian] Altman said they were in many ways "autobiographical and confessional".
One of the poems read: "On the run from the law, with my back to the wall. Watching the windows and the door. I'm not afraid to do or die. Maybe when this life is over I will get some sleep."
In another passage he wrote: "I'm just a manimal, twisted and confused, very dysfunctional."
