Carroll wasn’t in court Tuesday, but two new attorneys stepped up to help represent Peterson as he faces up to 60 years in prison for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.

One of the attorneys, David Peilet, said he would consider all possible grounds for an appeal, including the allegations that Brodsky failed to provide competent counsel.

In court documents filed earlier this month, attorney John Paul Carroll accused Peterson’s trial attorney, Joel Brodsky, of not effectively defending Peterson.

Drew Peterson's lead attorney Joel Brodsky has withdrawn from the case. We'll bring you more details as we get them.

All part of the plan?

BBM

Brodsky and DP have been thick as thieves from the beginning. I have no doubt in my mind that this was an alternative plan if DP got convicted.

IMO of course

I agree. . . when Brodsky put that last witness on the stand against the advice of his co-counsel I wondered if it was leading up to an appeal if Drew was found guilty. And especially when Drew said "good job" to them before they led him away~! Sarcasm or grounds for an appeal??? Both??? JMO

I don't think you can win an ineffective counsel claim, when you have FIVE top rated, experienced defense attorneys, who actively defended you by filing dozens and dozens of pretrial motions and appeals and complaints and who were very proactive and vocal and lodged hundreds of objections and did very aggressive cross examinations. That never seems to work.

Ineffective counsel is only successful when it can be shown that the defense was weak and did not take any action and did not make objections or make any effort to present a case.

ETA:

If you are GUILTY and your attorney accidentally allows some of the evidence proving your guilt, to be revealed by one of the witnesses HE called---that is hilarious---but does not equal ineffective counsel.

New hearing set in Drew Peterson murder case

After months of sniping by his attorneys and the filing of inflammatory motions, Drew Peterson finally has a court date in his bid for a new trial.

Judge Edward Burmila set Feb. 19 and 20 as the dates for Peterson’s hearing for a new trial. If Burmila denies his motion, Peterson’s sentencing hearing will begin immediately

Joseph Lopez, left, attorney for Drew Peterson, leaves as Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow arrives to speak to the media after a hearing at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet. The date was set today for a Will County judge to hear Drew Peterson's motion for a new trial on Feb. 19 and the next day has been set aside for a sentencing hearing at which prosecutors will put on evidence that he also murdered his fourth wife, Stacy.

There is SO much stuff in this case, I had to break it into sub-sections.

This is Post-Trial (where everything happening since 9/6/12 is located):

This is the Savio trial section:

There's a lot more, like the Hearsay Hearings sub-section; and this is the main link to all Stacy Peterson/Kathleen Savio case from Oct 2007 to present:
