Forensic experts from El Dorado County are investigating human skeletal remains found Thursday night along the waters edge of Folsom Lake.
Experts are on-site trying to determine whether the remains are those of a recently deceased person, or someone who died years ago.
Rich Preston, California State Parks superintendent for the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, said the report of the finding came in Thursday around 9 p.m. The remains were spotted in the Browns Ravine area, near the Red Banks historic town site, an area that was once hidden underwater.
Preston noted that the extremely low level of the lake, due to drought, played a role in the discovery of the remains.
Experts from the El Dorado County Sheriffs Department and coroners office are investigating.
