CANADA Canada - Basil Borutski kills three women, how many others?

Borutski, 60, who is representing himself, remained silent in the prisoner’s box throughout the trial. He made no arguments, called no witnesses, and did not testify.

Borutski admitted to a police detective the morning of his arrest to killing Carol Culleton, 66, Anastasia Kuzyk, 36, and Carol Culleton on Sept. 22, 2015.

He did not hire a lawyer, entered no plea, and did not participate when called upon in court. Court-appointed amicus James Foord offered brief cross-examinations of several witnesses. The Crown called 45 witnesses who gave evidence over 17 days of testimony.

The trial was originally scheduled to span 17 weeks.

It is expected Monday will proceed with the Crown making its closing argument. Borutski will then be afforded an opportunity to do the same, and Foord may also participate in closing statements.

OPP delve into serial killer investigations in new Youtube series
"Provincial Police are getting in on the true crime craze with a new Youtube series.

The OPP has launched a multi-part video series called “Serial Instinct: Through an Investigative Lens.”

They are framing the series as a look into the investigation behind some of the most prolific serial killer cases in Ontario.

“The depiction of monster serial killers on screen and in the media is easy to find, but what about the stories behind the investigation,” read a release from OPP.

The series will include interviews with detectives and forensic analysts and officers involved in well-known serial criminal cases."
"The other two videos will cover the case of serial killer nurse Elizabeth Wettlaufer, who was convicted of killing eight of her patients while working in long-term care homes, and Basil Borutski, who killed three women in the span of an hour in the Ottawa Valley back in 2015."

''A coroner’s inquest into the deaths of three women killed by a man in 2015 has begun and is expected to explore the dynamics of gender-based, intimate partner violence and femicide in rural communities.

Nathalie Warmerdam, 48, Carol Culleton, 66, and Anastasia Kuzyk, 36, were killed on their properties in the Renfrew County area by Basil Borutski, a man who had a known history of violence against women.

All three murders took place on Sept. 22, 2015, in the space of less than an hour.''

''The inquest is exploring the circumstances of their deaths and is also considering several public policy issues directed at preventing future deaths and protecting victims of intimate partner violence in rural communities.''

''The inquest is expected to last three weeks and hear from approximately 30 witnesses.''

''Borutski had a history of assaulting women and defying the justice system. On Sept. 22 , 2015, he strangled Carol Culleton, 66, who was at her cottage near Combermere. He took her car and drove to Wilno, where he shot and killed Anastasia Kuzyk, 36, then drove to Foymount Road, where he shot and killed Nathalie Warmerdam, 48.

All the women knew Borutski. He had prior domestic violence convictions against both Kuzyk and Warmerdam.

The inquest is focused on preventing violence and deaths in a rural context. On the first day, Nathalie Warmerdam’s daughter, Valerie, told the inquest that being convicted and jailed did not stop Borutski from coming back or finding other people to hurt.

“You have to build a system that isn’t just for catching monsters. Because most folks wouldn’t see them as monsters until after these types of events have occurred,” said Valerie. “And that doesn’t do anyone any good.”

IMHO it is sad that any one of these lovely ladies would have found anything remotely appealing about this evil killer. This shows that the US isn't the only place struggling with domestic violence.
