Circumstances of Disappearance:
De Qian Rang was last seen on April 20, 1992 in Elora, Ontario. She has never been heard from again. Her friends searched for her in Chinese communities all over Canada and the United States, but then finally called the police when they couldn't locate her.

Rang and her husband operated the Abacus Restaurant, south of Elora, at the time of her disappearance. The couple had a stormy relationship, and both had extramarital affairs. Her family in China last heard from her by letter in April 1992, and she indicated she wanted to make her marriage work and also to help make the Elora restaurant business operational.

Her husband was arrested in July 1993 after suspicion fell on him when he was seen with a large suitcase in a wooded area near Elora after Rang's disappearance. He was acquitted in December 1994 after a jury found him not guilty of second-degree murder.

Investigators went to China and also interviewed witnesses in British Columbia and the United States. If Rang is in the United States, she is not on record with the government. Her passport and landed immigrant card have also never been located. Authorities suspect foul play in her disappearance.

''Meanwhile, within Wellington County there is one outstanding missing person — De Qian Rang who was last seen on April 20, 1992 in Elora.''

''In Rang’s case, Chinese students at the University of Guelph initially wrote police with concerns about her disappearance.
The woman, who was 29 at the time, sent a letter to her father, Qing Wan Rang, in China in April 1992. She told him she was trying to make her marriage to Elora resident Wei Yang Sun work. The couple began a legal separation that January but she planned to stay and help with his Elora restaurant business.
Qing Wan Rang shared this with a Guelph courtroom in 1994, when Sun was tried on a count of second-degree murder in the death of De Qian Rang. Sun was found not guilty; Rang has never been found.
Prosecutors at Sun’s trial suggested Rang was killed sometime between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 20, 1992 and her 112-pound body was stuffed into a suitcase.
One witness testified she saw Sun carrying and dragging a large suitcase out of his apartment that evening. He told the witness he was taking it to his wife in Toronto, but returned that night with the suitcase in tow, saying he’d been run off the road by a drunk driver.
OPP investigators continue to search for Rang.
Rang is described as five-foot-three, with a slender build, brown eyes and black hair. She also went by the name Maria.
“(The case) will remain open until they locate the person safe and sound or find a body,” Loam said.''
