''The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help identifying a woman whose skeletal remains were found four miles west of Platteville nearly 49 years ago.

The agency posted a facial reconstruction photo of the woman on its Facebook page Thursday morning.

''According to the post, the caucasian woman's remains were found on Nov. 19, 1973, half-a-mile north of the Highway 66 bridge over the St. Vrain River''

"The woman was possibly between the ages of 23 and 25, and approximately 5’02” tall," the post reads. "She was wearing a red short-sleeved sweater and brown slacks with a 31” inseam and 31” waist."

Anyone who recognizes the woman is asked to call Cold Case Detective Byron Kastilahn at 970-400-2827 and reference case number 73W3059.''

I had an at length conversation with the Weld County Sherriffs Office in the beginning of 2020 and they admitted that they had many cases that were not in namus.
That’s so disappointing to hear. I have a friend who is desperately searching for her mom and sister who disappeared over 50 years ago from Colorado.

''In fact, in this grave, where the tombstone states there is one skull buried, there are actually two skulls, buried almost four decades ago.

Cemetery records show the two skulls were found a year and about 20 miles apart, one near Platteville, the other near Greeley.

It was 38 years ago, in November 1973, when the skull, leg bones and some ribs of a woman were found in the St. Vrain River by goose hunters west of Platteville. The woman, believed to be 26 to 29 years old, has never been identified. Found with the bones were some brown denim pants and a red knit sweater.

The next year, the “Henneck Farm Skull” was found in an irrigation ditch west of Greeley.
Paul Henneck of Greeley remembers when the skull was found.

“It was in the ditch near 20th Street and 59th Avenue,” Henneck said. “Out where the Farr Library and the softball fields are now. One of our workers was cleaning the ditch and found the skull and an old cowboy boot.”

''Also found was part of a casket, according to the Weld County coroner’s report. The report also says it didn’t appear the skull and casket were washed into the area but may have been “put there by some person.” That skull has never been identified as either male or female.

In the summer of 1974, apparently the Henneck Farm Skull and the remains of the unidentified woman were buried together in the grave at Linn Grove.''

The detectives said they might be able to exhume the bones and find a DNA connection to missing persons.

However, until they find a missing person case that appears to connect to either the “Henneck Farm Skull” or the Platteville skeleton, the detectives probably won’t exhume the bones.''
