Hi everyone,
I'm new here. I'm hoping that someone in this forum can share their wisdom so that I can prove the suspect was at the crime scene at the time of the incident.
I would like to have suggestions on how to catch the offender of the DV-related vandalization incident. Police checked the fingerprints and found the suspect's fingerprints only, but the suspect lived in the house prior to being served with a protection order, so the police didn't think it would prove his guilt. There were CCTVs, but it was turned off at the time of the incident, they were going to be turned on later in the night by the timer. Neighbours called the police because they thought it was strange that they heard the loud sound twice and after that, they saw the room light turned on one after another, they thought it was not the thief, it was 9 pm, too early and also the thief wouldn't be able to tell if the room has any valuable by turning on the light. They thought the person wasn't looking for valuables.
The suspect claimed in court that he was not at the crime scene at the time of the incident, but was at a friend's house 50m away. Even though the 2 locations are close by, it uses 2 different cell towers. So if the cell tower data is available, it might be able to prove that the suspect was not asleep at a friend's house, but was at the crime scene. How do I apply for the cell tower data in NZ? Police closed the file as the break-in by an unknown offender (nothing was taken), so it won't be helpful to apply for the data.
If it's not easy to get the cell tower data, is there any other way to prove that the offender was there?
For example, can we prove that the offender accessed the CCTVs of the house through his mobile to make sure it was turned off before the incident? If we check the main device, can we tell when the offender logs in to the CCTV system? CCTV main device is kept in a safe location.
Or can we prove that the offender was there by checking wifi router? Huawei router was used for wifi and it didn't have the function of log history (my IT guru friends helped me look), but wondering if somebody professional (digital forensic specialist etc.) can pull the data out from the router to prove that the offender's mobile was connected to wifi at the time of the incident.
I'm hoping to receive some wisdom from you to solve this crime.
Thank you for the time to read my post.
