Kueny, Barbara, “Dead man’s identity elusive”, The Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL), July 4, 1983, pg 3

“The man had been dead for four or five days.”

“A farmer…found the partially clad body between a road and a field north of Chanute recreation area, about two miles west of Paxton.”

“Police are investigating a possible link with an incident…On June 26….reports of someone being shot on Illinois 9 between Gibson City and Paxton. Two men in a vehicle with a wounded person in the back seat flagged down a man and told him to go to Gibson City and return with a nurse. They threatened the man with a weapon…nothing was found in the area later.”

“Authorities are also investigating a possible link with a body found near Mattoon Saturday [July 2, 1983]. That body was found along Interstate 57 and was identified as a Mattoon man who had been victim of a shooting and whose car was stolen.”

“Sheriff seeks interview in stabbing death link,” The Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL), July 5, 1983, pg 3.

“The man…died of 6 stab wounds to the abdomen…he was described as 5’9” tall and weighed 150 pounds.”

Richardson, Scott, “Police have suspect in Ford Co. slaying,” The Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL), July 22, 1983, pg 22.

“The driver of the car was arrested in Metropolis…he had entered the United States illegally. He told authorities that he knew one of the men in the car because he had worked with him in a migrant worker camp.”

“The police continued their search for the car used by the trio - a brown Chevelle with Texas license number YAX 707.”

Richardson, Scott, “Man’s death may be tied to 23 others,” The Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL), Jan 26, 1984, pg 1.

“When found…the victim's pants were down around his ankles, a shoe was missing and he did not wear a shirt - just like other victims.”

“All other victims were found within six miles of an interstate.”

We now know that these killings were done by Larry Eyler, who was active in the Midwest from 1982 to 1984.

Kueny, Barbara, “Unidentified slaying victim to be buried,” The Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL), May 1, 1984, pg 2.

“The man will be buried in Drummer Township Cemetery”

It seems this is his grave here:

In short, either this guy was a victim of Larry Eyler or a victim of the other group of men who drove the car from Texas.
