Kevin Sypher willingly walked away from the car he was travelling in with a family member in the Wild Basin area of RMNP on April 30. On May 1, rangers came upon family members searching for him and they have joined the search.

Kevin is 6'2", gray hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue cap, jeans and cowboy boots.

"From the initial investigation on May 1, park rangers learned that a man matching Sypher’s description was seen by park staff the afternoon of April 30, travelling on foot near Copeland Lake walking west on the Wild Basin Road. Due to this information, search efforts continued along the Wild Basin Road and river corridor and up the summer trailhead. On May 3, RMNP Search and Rescue team members were assisted by a dog team from Front Range Rescue Dogs and search efforts were concentrated around the summer trailhead and up to Copeland Falls."

Active search efforts have already been suspended.

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO). A former El Paso County Deputy who was last seen almost a year ago, on April 30, 2023, at Rocky Mountain National Park was booked into the Teller County jail. An inmate search shows that Kevin Sypher was booked just after 6:30 p.m. on April 2, 2024.

When Sypher disappeared, he was still with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) but, the POST database shows that he was terminated for cause on August 28, 2023. He is still a certified law enforcement officer.

Court documents show that she discovered Sypher was already married to another woman just one month after she married him. Days after her discovery, Sypher walked off into Rocky Mountain National Forest and wasn't heard from for nearly a year.

His colleagues arrested Sypher on Tuesday, April 2 and booked him into the jail around 6:30 in the evening. The 57-year-old was charged with felony theft, felony charitable fraud, and two counts of official misconduct.

I wonder what Kevin did for almost a year after walking into Rocky Mountain National Park.
