That's a good find! The race, age and time period match, and the location is also just a 3-hour drive from Minneapolis.

I agree, and I can't find any more info online. I would like to know more about the day he quit. If it was sudden, could he have been going through a tough time that made him despair and take his own life? But if he had given his two weeks', then maybe his resignation could be unrelated.

Also, what was his job? Could there have been something shady going on there that made him want to quit abruptly, and maybe his employer retaliated?

And last, who reported him missing? Did he have family? What are their thoughts? Could he have wanted to walk away from his life and start a new one?

I wonder if his actual name is Donald Edwin Walter Pauling (Ancestry link).

The only other option in Ancestry, Donald E Pauling, matches the above for birth date and place, so likely the same person.

If that is the MP, he married in 1954, and she remarried in 1970.

Looks like he was declared dead in 1972.

But still, no newspaper mentions I can find - hopefully another researcher can ferret out some details!
