My callouts:
  • There is a lot more information available on Robert Adams and the Infinity Institute, but it's unclear at this point what could be relevant.
  • CityView NC reports that an incident report for London says she has not been seen since June 6 2019, which is the day after the Berriedale home was purchased.
  • Public databases for Fayetteville and Cumberland County give information on incidents/contact with the homes associated with the Deven family, but I found nothing in November 2023, when Leonie sustained an injury.
  • I have no idea what to make of some of these codes, especially "Category: MCEM"

The request for an emergency order of protection was filed by the Cumberland County Department of Social Services on behalf of 95-year-old Leonie Maxwell.

In its request, DSS states that Maxwell is unable to advocate for herself because she is on a ventilator in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center after sustaining an anoxic brain injury in November.

The April 10 filing alleges that her daughter and caretaker, Avantae Deven, 61, had not responded since March 27 to calls from hospital staff concerning "necessary medical decisions" for Maxwell and that on March 30 when a welfare check was conducted at Deven's home, no one answered the door.

Here's what I don't get about London's lack of recent pictures:

It would be one thing if it was not her being on social media or keeping it private from the family. While social media is huge with our generation, it's also common for people to be starting to cut back on our social media presence around our mid-late 20s due to professional reasons, lack of time, more privacy, etc. (I'm a couple years older than her if she is alive). But... you'd think there would be a driver's license/state ID pic floating around somewhere? In the US, it would be difficult to engage in society without one of these things, which means she would have had contact with the DMV within the past few years. And IIRC, most states can release DMV photos of missing adults since it's in the government database.

In addition to the adoption record, Buncombe County records also show that Avantae Deven was granted a divorce in 2006 after living separately from her husband for five years. It states the couple was married in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1996 and they shared no property or had children in common. The record shows that Deven was unsuccessful in locating her estranged husband to serve him with the papers, even going so far as to run notices in a Montana newspaper. The North Carolina court granted the divorce because the couple had been separated for at least 12 months, the record states.

Cumberland County property records show that Nelson & Johnson LLC owned and then sold the Eichelberger Drive home the family previously lived in June 2019. That same month, Nelson & Johnson LLC purchased the Berriedale Drive home Avantae Deven currently lives in.

The business, Nelson & Johnson LLC, does not appear to be registered in North Carolina, but New Mexico records list Avantae Deven as a member of Nelson & Johnson LLC, established in New Mexico in 2016. The business purpose is listed as: "Gatherings for various artist showings and book sharing/readings. No selling entailed."

What is an LLC please. I am in the UK?

A limited liability company (LLC) is a business structure in the U.S. that protects the assets of its owners from lawsuits and creditors concerned with the company's business debts

So Ava got a wild hair on January 19th to call 911 and report her son missing when according to her he was last seen over a year prior but doesn't recall what he was wearing when she last saw him or the number he last called her from to tell her he was going to Buddhist retreat.

seem legit

Still want to know what prompted that phone call from Ava. why that day and not anyone of the hundreds prior to it?

I don't like this case at all. Gives me Erica Parsons vibes. Why do I feel so strongly Blake never made it to his teen years at all??
I have the same gut feeling especially because Blake hasn't been seen by neighbours and relatives for an extended period. I saw something about Blake being placed in foster care, I wonder if there is any documentation to support this? There has to be a paper trail somewhere if he was fostered/adopted by someone. I also wonder if the school has documents about his last school year and his attendance before being removed entirely. I am glad NCMEC is involved in this case and the FBI. Hopefully, Blake is safe with his adopted family and the system works the way it's supposed to.

Blake was adopted into the home where he was last known to be. It seems he was not safe there at all.

As others have said, it is a very convoluted story and it seems that is by design. I have an idea there are victims we don't even know about.
It wouldn't surprise me if more victims were identified throughout this investigation. I hate that the system works against not for children a lot of the time.

Wow, so is there possibly a missing husband, too? She was “unsuccessful in locating her estranged husband” so a divorce was granted. She also seems unsuccessful in locating her son and her daughter…

Missing husband AND other missing kids, maybe? We can't be the only ones noticing that a lot of people in her life have disappeared. Didn't Blake's family think AD had adopted Blake's birth siblings also? They at least mentioned in an interview that she was "homeschooling them" and it wasn't clear who that meant, but I got the idea it was about his birth siblings. I'll have to find that. Though I'm not sure I've ever seen how many siblings he had, only that there were siblings mentioned that I assumed were birth siblings and not adopted siblings.

Edited to add the comments about Blake's siblings that is unclear....
From the fabulous timeline by Mack the Knife here: NC - NC - Blake Deven, poss 5-6, not seen by family in several years, last photo is from 2012, FBI involved, Fayetteville, unk missing date

[Five years ago] Blake's paternal aunt says family members haven't seen Blake in five years, and "As far as we know, from the time that she got them, she homeschooled them". It's unclear if this means that Blake's adoptive mother had taken in his biological siblings.
