Prosecutors wanted Goff’s case to be transferred to adult criminal court.
However, in her order, Judge Sheila Calloway wrote that Goff III has PTSD, has not been in trouble, and is receptive to mental health treatment. Therefore, he will remain in the juvenile justice system.
The order states that Goff III had no previous delinquency convictions. He was also diagnosed with PTSD when he was nine, related to the abuse he witnessed by his father against his mother.
According to testimony given by his mom, Michael Goff, Jr., abused her for years. The order says that the abusive behavior is well-documented with numerous criminal records and orders of protection against Goff, Jr., between November 2004 and May 2012.
According to friends, Goff, Jr., also had a drinking problem. He had been arrested a number of times.
The order states that witnesses report that one to three days before his murder, Goff, Jr. threatened to kill and burn his family. Shortly after the threats of burning the family, Goff III’s sister’s house burned down.
