Titanic Magnussen Hagen has been missing from his home in Marysville, Washington since August of 1979. He had been involved in the local drug scene and showed signs of depression prior to his disappearance.

He is 5' 10" and 150 lbs, with blue eyes. According to NamUs his hair is strawberry/blonde although to me, it looks dark in the photo above. He had a broken knuckle on the middle finger of his left hand, and a fractured nose.

He may have been sighted in Needles, California; Riviera, Arizona or Twin Bridges, Montana. None of these alleged sightings have ever been substantiated.

So far I've found 1 yearbook photo of Titanic. Helps visualize the strawberry-blonde hair :)

1973 Marysville-Pilchuck High School

Does it list which grade he was in in 1973? I'm wondering about his age in the photo.

Also, there was no such school as Marysville-Pilchuck High School in 1973. At the time, the two local high schools were Marysville High School and Pilchuck High School. They were combined and merged into one school (Marysville-Pilchuck) in 1976. I wonder which one Titanic attended.

My apologies, I should have checked the actual yearbook and not gone by what the Ancestry record had (I have found more errors than not when it comes to yearbooks there for some reason)
It is Pilchuck High School, he’s listed with the Sophomores in the 1973 book. (I’m not sure what the “‘74” reference is though) There’s not a copy of 1974, and he’s not in the 1975 book. I have not had a chance to look through all the sports/activities sections to see if he may be pictured anywhere else...

Hope this helps...

Thanks for those clarifications!

Here's a newspaper article about high school basketball from January 27, 1972 that mentions both Titanic (a junior at Pilchuck) and his brother Tiger (a senior at Marysville). I wonder why the two brothers would attend different schools?
Marysville Globe January 27 Page 12

There are several mentions of him in reports about both high school basketball and high school baseball games the same newspaper in 1972 and 1973. He is sometimes listed as "Ti Hagen".

No problem!

Ok, I’ll look through those particular sports sections then! By the looks of his build, I figured he must have played some type of sport...he looks very built in his upper body. (IMO)

thanks for finding the articles! :)
I’ll see what else I can find

ETA: There’s no “Pilchuck High School” listed separately... unless it’s located in a different city, which I don’t think it is/was (definitely no Pulchuck, WA, I checked)...so only Marysville HS and Marysville-Pilchuck HS are on classmates.com

Titanic Magnussen is a huge name, rather these are two huge names. Is there anyone among us who didn't wonder if perhaps he was gigantic at birth? If nomen est omen, or "name is destiny" is true, then can his name have had any impact on his destiny? I'm sure psychologists are sharpening their pencils.

Titanic Magnussen was born April 10th, 1953, four days before the movie "Titanic" came out. Was he named after a huge ship that was doomed? How did this effect his self image? How did this play out in his relationships at school?

Would he still be with us if he had been named John, or Tom?

Could it possibly be this guy??? I started looking through the sports sections of the WA yearbooks and it dawned on me that Titanic has a very similar athletic look and reputation as him...

Just for quick comparison, Titanic’s info in red)

*Still trying to find a sports photo of Titanic... nothing. The school colors are red/gold (rather the current Marysville-Pilchuck HS uniforms are) so I don’t think the jersey would have been an actual school uniform. Time frame is spot on. Titanic was last seen in August 1979, and the UID was found January 5, 1981 and estimated to have a been deceased a year or more. That’s a difference of about a year and 4 months. The hair and age match. The height is off a good 3 inches though.

There’s no cause of death listed for the UID and Titanic was reportedly depressed and into the drug scene at the time of his disappearance...I’m not familiar with California - would this be a place someone might wander off to and dying of an accidental overdose or the elements?

Not sure if this helps at all but Titanic did play basketball at some point and possibly his brother too.

Newspaper that has a an article and photo of a Pilchuck basketball game in 73 but mentions "Ti Hagan" so that could be either brother.
Marysville Globe December 6 Page 16

Titanic is mentioned in this article from 1970. Print is tiny so not bringing over but its 2nd column and last paragraph before the players are listed so he did play basketball at some point.

Titanic's NamUs profile has been modified today. 7/1/22

He currently has 48 rule outs listed.

The name catches my attention... Titanic and his brother Tiger... as I have always said, those who get involved with drugs end up badly, it is a violent and dangerous world... but as adults he would know what the risk would be...
either way
rest in peace

I have known Titanic from grade school through high school. Our families knew each other. Titanic's mom and my mom were best friends. I have class photos with Titanic in 2nd grade, 6th grade and through high school. Titanic graduated with me in 1974 and he is in my/our senior high school annual.

To clarify. Tiger was a few years older than Titanic. Up through 1969 there was only one high school: Marysville High School. A new high school was build in 1970: Pilchuck High School. Starting the class year 1970-71 there was 8th grade, freshmans and sophmores (Titanic and I were freshmans) ... no junior or seniors. The purpose was to create a new legacy at Pilchuck while at the same time preserving the legacy of the juniors and seniors at Marysville. Both high schools are in the Marysville School District. And the reason Tiger stayed with Marysville High School and did not migrate to Pilchuck High School.

This is our 50th high school reunion. I have never forgotten my friend. I am glad to have come across this page.

I retired a few years ago after nearly 40 years as an LEO. If there is anything I can do, please reach out to me.

Titanic attended Pilchuck High School. The two high schools merged in 1975-76.
