Samuel LeeHouchens who was reported missing on Friday, June 22, 2018. The search commencing this morning will be based at Quarry Park on Quarry Road in Charlottesville and focus on Moores Creek and surrounding areas.

Mr. Houchens is a 53 year old white male with brown hair thinning on top, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and 160 lbs. Mr. Houchens was last seen late Wednesday night, June 20, 2018 at 1623 Meridian Street.

Mr. Houchens has limited mobility and often uses a wheel chair, however, he may be on foot.

#Virginia Critically Missing Adult Alert: Missing #Charlottesville Man

At the request of the Charlottesville Police Department, the Virginia State Police has activated a "Virginia Critically Missing Adult Alert" for 53-year-old Samuel Lee Houchens.

Houchens is a white male with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5'7 and weighs 160 lbs. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt with navy and orange University of Virginia cavalier basketball shorts and brown, deck shoes.

Houchens is believed to be in danger and was last seen the evening of June 20, 2018, at his residence in the 1600 block of Meridian Street in Charlottesville. He may need medical attention.

Anyone with information about Houchens is asked to call 911 or the Charlottesville Police Department at 1-434-970-3280.

This is Virginia's first "Critically Missing Adult Alert" Activation since the program/new law went into effect July 1, 2018.

Virginia State Police listed the following criteria for the activation of the Critically Missing Adult (CMA) Alert Plan:

— The abducted adult must be 18 years of age or older and the law enforcement agency believes the adult has been abducted (unwillingly taken from their environment without permission).
— The law enforcement agency believes the abducted adult is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.
— A law enforcement investigation has taken place that verified the abduction or eliminated alternative explanations.
— Sufficient information is available to disseminate to the public that could assist in locating the abducted adult, suspect, and/or the suspect’s vehicle.
— The abducted adult must be entered into the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) missing person files.

According to criteria for the alert, the first of its kind in Virginia and just activated Sunday, it appears that authorities believe Houchens was abducted.

Medical Conditions Houchens is an alcoholic and has a history of drug abuse. According to his girlfriend, he had stopped using drugs prior to his disappearance, but had recently started again. He has mobility issues and, although he can walk, he often uses a scooter get around. His scooter was left behind.
Distinguishing Characteristics Caucasian male. Blond hair, hazel eyes. Houchens has a tattoo on his forearm and a tattoo on his the back of his hand.

Details of Disappearance
Houchens was last seen at his home in the 1600 block of Meridian Street in Charlottesville, Virginia on the evening of June 20, 2018. He has never been heard from again. His scooter was left behind at home, and the back of his phone and the phone battery were found in the backyard, but the phone itself was missing.

Houchens may still be in the local area. It's uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning and his family is concerned for his safety. His case remains unsolved.
