HARRIS – First responders are scouring the area around Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills after a man walked away from the hospital on Father’s Day, June 18.

Matthew Russo, 36, was brought to the hospital on Father’s Day, June 18 by ambulance, but when he arrived, he refused medical attention and walked away, authorities said.

No one has heard from him since.

“He walked out of the entrance of the hospital, down to Harris Bushville Road,” said Sgt. Blake Starner. “We’ve been doing background research with local security cameras and have verified that her was, in fact, here on the road.”

He was seen walking along Brenner Highway in the direction of Liberty, about two miles away.

The videos are helping narrow the search area.

Starner said they may bring in fire departments, other police agencies, and state forest rangers to help out.

Russo was wearing a black t-shirt, black sneakers and jeans.

Anyone who may have been Russo walking along the roads is asked to call the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office at 845-794-7100 and press extension 1.

MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information regarding the whereabouts of Matthew Russo, 36, of Monticello.

Russo was last seen on Father’s Day, June 18, leaving the emergency room of Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills in Harris.

He is described as being white, five-feet, 10-inches tall, 145 pounds, with hazel eyes and blonde hair. He was wearing a black shirt, blue jean shorts and black Nike sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 845-794-7100 Ext. #1 or via the confidential TIPS line at 845-807-0158. All calls will be kept confidential.

The $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to a resolution of this case and finding Russo.

For weeks after his disappearance, police scoured the area in the vicinity of the hospital looking for any clues as to his whereabouts, but were unsuccessful.

”Physical searches have occurred in and throughout the area of Harris, Ferndale, the Village of Monticello, and the Town of Fallsburg, utilizing canines and drones,” Starner said. “We’ve elicited the help of DPW to drain basements of properties in the Village of Monticello that we were told to look at as well as draining a lake on old 17 in the Harris area.”
