Since Sgt. Coonradt went missing while on active duty with the U.S. Army, his case would have been handled in this manner:
- When he first was officially noted as absent from an assigned place of duty at a specified time, he would have been placed in an AWOL status, and various notifications sent out. His local command would have attempted to locate him, possibly informing local civil authorities.
- After 30 days of him being missing (with no solid information indicating cause), he would be declared a Deserter for administrative purposes, and his name added to a permanent "Deserter list" maintained by the Army. All pay, allowances, and dependent privileges would be suspended.

I am pretty sure he was married. On Ancestry there is a marriage record for Jeffrey A Coonradt in Monterey in 1981, which also lists him as age 21. There is also a family tree from a member of the Coonradt family which includes a spouse and two children (shown as private indicating still living). I know the maiden name of the spouse from the marriage record and that cross references to a California birth of a son in 1984. Given a widow and children it seems surprising this case has so little information.

When asked about her brother's wife and children, Harbers said she couldn't answer for them or comment much on an active investigation.

Years of searching, have driven Yvonne to some interesting avenues looking for answers. Most recently, she has become close with Tobi Kirschman, a DNA analyst from California, closely involved with the 'Golden State Killer case,' solved due to genetic genealogy.

Just five weeks after her brother Jeff went missing, Yvonne's youngest brother Darryl was killed at only 21-years-old in a car crash, leaving behind his family, including a one-year-old son. Yvonne continues to search for her brother and the details surrounding his disappearance
